Ok, here we go:
TRD is on the Left, Stock is on the right. VERY similar housings. Here you can see the difference in the height of the stick. Here you can see the difference in the shape of the stick. Note the location of the retainer for the top of the boot. It's lower on the TRD stick because the shifter knob sits MUCH lower on the stick than the stock one does. This is a good shot of how much is taken off the top of the TRD stick. Lastly, you can see here that the ball end of the stick has been lowered. Essentially, the TRD stick has been shortened and bent slightly differently than the stock, but more importantly the pivot point has been lowered which has a dramatic effect on the shortening of the throws. Just some FYI information I thought would satisfy some curious minds and some pics I hadn't seen posted nor explained. Just hoping to help out here. -------------------- |

No wonder the TRD on costs so much. The 7th gen shifter just comes with the rod and bushings. It's nice to finally see a comparison.

That would be one very deep shift knob for that too be true The plastic retainer is too low on your TRD shifter, probably got pushed down at some point along the way. You can adjust it to fit what ever style knob you want. It will likely be the same distance from the threads to the retainer as the stock one goes. BTW, don't forget about the metal spacers that go on the bottom of the shifter housing. I was reinstalling mine a while back and forgot about them, needless to say it didn't work too well. The end of the stick will bottom out against the floor |

The end of the stick will bottom out against the floor Ummmm......yeah, it IS one very deep shift knob. That plastic clip on the TRD stick was in a specific spot and held there in a retainer groove. The end of the threads in the shifter knob are JUST under the top of the knob on the inside, and if you've ever looked at a stock vs. TRD shifter knob you'll notice that the TRD is the tailshaft style knob while the stock is just the top round knob itself. In other words, yes, that plastic clip is in the correct location, yes, the TRD knob is very deep by design. Everything sits in the car 100% lined up with no changes to what was shown in the pics. I'll try to get pics tonight of the TRD vs. Stock knob, for reference. Good call on the spacers. That was immediately aparrent when I had the shifter sitting in there without them. ive had mine for a couple years now,
IMO its the best one, bar none. ive tried the TWM and 7th gen, both are too notchy and short for my taste. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Its cool Fastbird. I never had a stock shifter and knob since I converted mine from automatic, I figured it would be the same
I love the feel of the TRD shifter, its tight and has a solid feel to it. Although 1st to 2nd seems a bit long. |

i'm tossing up whether to get a TRD or a TWM,
TRD short shifter in australia is like $450AUD or $300US is that normal or expensive |
