how to install speakers, i need help bad!!!! Options

i just baught new alpine speaker for my car but having a hard time installing it... the front door stock speakers are 6 3/4 but the 6 1/2 works but they dont fit onto the speaker holder.......what do i do

Surely shouldn't be too difficult to modify something for your speakers to fit! Your kind of lucky thet are smaller than the original so fit in the hole to start with? Now it is a case of closing the size of the hole! I am sure there are a range of products available (cheap or even free!) that you can use. Got some thin Plywood? Do a template and cut it to shape with a jigsaw. Bolt on to existing bracket (having pre-made the holes for your new speaker bolts!) and bolt on your new set!

Just an idea... I'm sure you'll fashion something cool! Hey...you got a kid brother who plays with Mecanno? Just a thought!

dude that "mechanico" set stuff works!! i used stuff JUST like it to make the brakets for my 6 1/2's ...i just used the metal tab that i had left over from my radio install...

you can get a rotoray tool and sand or cut off those little deals that stick out above the plane of the thing that you are installing the speakers on...like i said use a rotozip or something like that to grind away that plastic.

also if you dont have a 14 volt or higher voltage drill get one to set the speakers in there so they are sturdy and you can get accurate bass from them..

how about the rear speaker on my hatchback....how do i install them in....the 6 1/2 fits in the groves perfectly but there is not enough plastic on the speaker holder for me to srew the speaker onto

When I put my 61/2 in the front they were to small to, and I was feeling lazy and just slapped some dynamat behind the speakers(not near the wires) and stuck them back in. no big deal

lol shiet same problem bought these fuggers yesterday and found out today the b!tches dont fit. someone on the forums told me 6 1/2. im a newbie and i cant get the **** to fit so what do i do. return em and by myself a deck? i still needa replace the front speakers on the door cuz they're blown or sound really off when the bass is high it rattles. the back ones are ok. can u guys gimme step by step details or show pix or i'll jus get the deck.

i found some brackets on crutchfield for 12 bucks and used them for the front as a bracket....works really good...just need a little modification to them thats all...it works for my rear too which required no modification to the brackets....i know how u feel when u found out they dont fit so just let me know if u need anymore help...but i think the best way to go is to buy the 6 1/2 adapter bracket from www.crutchfield.com for 12 bucks...let me know if u need anymore help

Are you talking about the doors or rear?? the doors are exactly 8" so 6 1/2s don't fit right. the rear speakers are 6 1/2 and fit just fine. If you want to install 6 1/2s in the front you'll have to make a mount.

Dammit, I have the same problem now. Where on crutchfield did you find those brackets? I bought my speakers from crutchfield and they said they were perfect fit (bastards), so hopefully they will just kick 'em down if they still have 'em.

if you dont mind wrecking the stock speakers you can do what i did. take the speaker out and cut the four metal pieces that hold the speaker to the metal surrounding. if you do this you will wind up with just the metal ring that surrounds the speaker. once i had just the ring i drilled holes in it to mount the new speakers with and just put it back in. i havent had any problems with it yet the only downside is you wont be able to put the original ones back in if you have to. if you want more details let me know

just email crutchfield and tell them that it was not a perfect fit and hopefull they will send you some brackets for free...just complain to them thats the best advice i can give you or just buy the brackets.....just click the installtion tab on their web site and specify your car then look for Speaker Adapter Brackets under quick links.....they actually have more brackets adapter now than the time i bought mines two weeks ago but i think the best one to get is the Universal 1" Liftring for 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speakers....the ring is 1 inch. but measure the gap between the speaker and the door speaker holder.....these aren't the ones that i bought but i think it might work if 1 inch is big enough...let me know if u need anymore help

haha man no problem....just remember the bracket that i bought requires some modification to it in order it to work....just pm me if u need any help and if u buy the 1" round bracket tell me how those work

fricking crutchfield, I'm never trusting them again. they said that 6 3/4" speakers would fit in the back, too, but I just got my other speakers and they don't fit either. Too large, looks like it needs 6 1/2" speakers.

soldier4life: did you have to use brackets for the rear speakers too?

I just know I'm going to end up paying someone too much money to install these things for me.

No crap!! I feel your pain same thing happened to me, I also bought those stupid brackets and they don't even fit. I'll end up paying Tweeter or somebody to install it for me... grumble grumble. Back in mother Russia evil capitalist crutchfield would have to pay for this outrage!!! NARR!!

look you guys...brackets are your best bet.

for the front. it would be pimp to see some custom kick panels made. i am getting pretty good at fiberglass work and will be starting production soon.. w00t.

s'true, brackets are the best bet, it's just that the one's we got don't work. I am looking around at local shops to see if I can get custom brackets made for the front speakers. In the back, I think if I just do some cutting I can get the speakers to fit, it's just gonna be a pain in the a$$.

Someone I talked to also recommended using those metal strips with holes in 'em to bridge the gap between the speaker holes and the mounting holes, but I'm not sure how sturdy that would be. Those are cheap, though, and if custom brackets are too spendy, I might give it a try.
