It all depends on how much you want to spend and how long you can wait until having the car back.

Swap out with another 5S - pretty cheap, done quickly.

Have your current motor rebuilt right - anywhere from $800 - $1500 and you have a warrantied motor that'll definately last a while. You could even swap out the pistons with lower comp and run a small turbo without changing too much.

To swap over to a 3SGTE, now your talking about replacing engine mounts, exhaust system, wiring, cooling lines - not just a motor. $3000 easy. Plus, like all used motor, you dont have any guarentee that it will last a year. And unless you get a motor from a fellow member or friend, you dont know anything about the engines history true history. I always recommend this - if your spending that kinda cash to do a swap, take the motor in to be checked out replace all the gaskets.

well i'm starting the research.. looking for 5sfe rebuilt or newer used engines and also 3sgte clips to see what the best deal will be.

but i'm not sure if the MR2 3sgte's work as easily as the Celica 3sgte's.. I am figuring since a shop will be doing the work, the easier the better!

well in my opinion, i c that u are heading more for style on ur celica than racing. but i would still go for the 3s..cause not only will u have a powerful engine, but u will also have somethin that would turn heads at shows. Im intending for my celi to be a show car, but ima eventually do the 3s swap cause at most shows ive been to, everyone shows off the engine as a part of the car too..so then u gotta have somethin worth showing under the hood, get what im saying?? i mean a 5s would be good, but it wouldnt get have the recognition as the 3s would. If i were u, i would crunch up the numbers n find a way to do the 3s swap.
