I really don't know if I have a GT or ST, I can keep up with my friend's 99' Prelude, he has no mods, pretty much factory. I have no mods either. My theory is, that the guy I bought it from got into an accident (which he mentioned of course), and he had to get the trunk replaced, and doing so, it didnt have the GT emblem. So, here is my question.... How do I distinguish between an ST and a GT.

If you don't know if you have a GT or an ST, the easiest way to check is to look at the chassis code. You'll find this if you open your hood and look at the firewall, which is the back wall of the engine bay, closest to the cabin of your car. It's a combination of letters and numbers that starts with "AT", or "ST" that's engraved into the metal of your firewall. If this combination says "AT200", then you have a ST, and if it says "ST204", then you have a GT. If you have anything besides "AT200" or "ST204", then you either live out of the United States or your car was imported from another country.

I have a GT and this is what they look like under the hood. STs have a different motor

I don't recommend it because it screwed up both my cars when I had it done, but I took it to an auto detailer. They turned on both cars (I had a 2001 Xterra, too) sprayed the engine bay down with degreaser and sprayed it out with the high pressure hose. When I drove away it felt like one of my cylinder's wasn't firing on the Celica. I took it out to the highway, got it up to speed and burned off whatever water was causing the problem, but I was pretty worried. A day later my Xterra started squawking error codes which sucked because I was trying to sell it! I ended up having to pull connectors apart and swab them out with cotton. There was one 02 sensor fault that never quite went away. It stopped turning on the check engine light, but if you plugged a code reader into it it would report it as an intermittent fault. I must admit, both engine bays looked new (mine had broken the 250,000 mile point when I had it done and took that photo) but I think I will just carefully hand clean everything from now on, because there's too much electrical stuff to fry by spraying everything like that.

laugh.gif come on man, its not that bad. think of the extra few mpg your getting to make you feel better. but i am wondering how your auto st is keeping up with a 99 prelude, clue me in because i cant even keep close wink.gif. honestly, the only reason i would want the gt over my st isnt the 5sfe (the difference between the 7afe and 5sfe is not too siginificant) but the rear discs.

and 94gt, that has got to be the cleanest 250k+ mile engine ive ever seen. ya but i woulndt spray mine like that. i just spent some time with degreaser, armorall, rags, and qtips lol.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

look here:

this is ST engine (7AFE) so if it looks faintly familiar you have ST... IMHO you probably have an ST if you don't have the GT emblem...

yeah Im happy with what I got, I'm just not too stoked about the limited availability in things I can do to my car. It's pretty hard for me to find anything, even on ebay. But besides that, its cool.

I honestly don't know how I can keep up with him, I tried racing in his prelude vs. my car and I was slowly moving away..
