Well the engine didn't make it to the 1000 mile mark after my friend and I rebuilt it.. It sounds like something happened with the bearings again.... mostly likely because we didn't machine down the crank or consider putting oversized bearings in it...
so now i'm trying to figure out what to do... I am VERY low on money and may have my parents help pay so not sure what the best option would be.. I'd love to have a 3sgte but i'm not a racer and my friend really thinks that'd be a waste of money... but now I just want to get this thing running like new.. no more of this partially fix it so it still makes noises and worries me every time i drive it... so wondering what you all honestly think.. If you can, please let me know how much you all paid for swaps or engine installs if you took them to a shop.. since my friend now has a full time job and wouldn't be able to help me do this work... Thank you everyone :-) -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

Sorry to hear about your engine. Won't you have to convert to OBD-II if you swap in a newer 5S?

not a racer? Dont do a 3s. Not alot of cash...not a 3s. your best bet is a new low mileage 5f motor.

Sorry to hear about the motor man.
Great news is though, you can pull a fresh low mileage 5SFE out of alot of junked Toyotas. Go to "car-part.com" and you can find a very low mileage Celica, Solara, Camry, or even MR2 5SFE motor for not a ton of money. Definately your best bet from the sounds of things....from there you can ask for help on the install from some knowledgable members on here. Manny (presure2) put an OBDII motor in his 94, so he should be able to help you out greatly with the install. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

you dont have to go obdII to put a 96+ engine in a 94-95.
you just use the 94-95 harness, and ecu. and swap out the distributor and egr valve. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

considering your options, a 5sfe is good, save up and mod it a bit to be a lil quicker than stock, that'd be a good daily driver 5sfe
if you want 3sgte swap, save up a ton and have someone who knows their toyota do the swap for you, like Doc Tweak, but i wouldn't daily drive a 3sgte, too precious This post has been edited by pure_dx: Mar 19, 2006 - 9:29 PM |

5S, or 5s-fte
With how much you talk about not speeding and not racing a 3sgte just doesnt seem your style at least. With the direction that your going with your car, body kit, air ride, basicly showing it, a 3s would just be overkill. Consider the 1mz tho? DTE -------------------- I am a thief.

I think another 5s would be the cheapest best alternative as well.
However, I want to point out that you don't need to be into "racing" to want a 3s. I never race (other than spanking a few people at a stop light at times) but still enjoy the power and sportiness of the 3s. -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |
