and have any of you delt or heard of Qualls, Advance, or Cypress Auto Salvage????

thanks a lot, trying to get this project car done and out of my garage.

i looked up 1990 Toyota Celica - Engines on www.car-parts.com

If anybody has a better place for me to look, please let me know, thank you.

4a-fe engines are weak sauce. they're slower than the almighty 7a-fe.

Yes, along with the early Corolla.

No.

Check local salvage yards for Corollas and Celicas.

iirc the prizm GSI has a small port 4age (red top i think?) that cranks out 110 hp and about the same amount of torque. you can bolt on a mr2 4agze or 4age (silver and black top i think?) and use the ecu from that engine (its a direct swap i think) and crank out a reliable 150hp from the 1.6L

im a bit fuzzy, theres info about it on mr2oc.

theres alot more out there for the 4a e engines. or you can just do a 7afe with high cp pistons for a 4age since they do use the same pistons.

no they don't... but yeah.

A 4AFE is a 4AFE... all the same thing. There are minor differences in some of the early ones (4AF) which were carbed and didn't have points drilled for injectors, and there are a couple of different intake manifolds... but they're pretty much the same. I would look into throwing in a 7AFE instead, and run it on 4AFE electronics if possible.

4afe/4age and the 7afe use the same bore diameter. the pistons from a 4age/4agze fit into a 7afe with out any modification. the only POSSIBLE issue could be deck height with the High CP pistons, however that shouldnt be that much of an issue.

Same bore... yes. Pistons are different. The later model 4AG's use 20mm pins, which are similar to the 7AFE, but the 4AGE's rods are full flow, as opposed to the 7AFE's, which are press fit. In other words, the pins are pressed into the Piston on the 4AGE's, and on the 7AFE, the pins are pressed into the rods. They do NOT interchange without modifications because of that. The 4AFE uses 18mm pins, like the older 4AGE's... along with smaller rods, and the smaller crank.

well ya learn something new everyday! i had been told they were a direct swap. i guess they would be with aftermarket rods tongue.gif

no there are more parts for the 4aGe not the 4afe, the 4afe is really just an unstroked 7afe, it still has the economy head, and its only 1.6L, its like the d16 of toyota engines as far as i care
