5 speed tranny question Options

Hey guys! I'm geting ready for a manual tranny swap and I have a silly guestion. What is the difference between auto and manual Celi ST. How does it feel with 5 speed. Is it much faster? I know it's better and more fun and everything, but I did not have a chance drive ST with 5 speed so I don't really know what to expect... opinions and suggestions? Thank you.

This is exactly what dealerships are for! Go find a Celica ST or older Corolla 5spd and check it out. If you dont know how to drive a stick, dont worry! They'll replace it....

ive driven a cavalier 5spd, and i own a gt auto. The major difference for me was when u let go of the gas in the cavalier, and dont get on the clutch/put it in neutral u dont coast as much as u would in the auto celica. Also i was in lower gears, mainly 2 and 3, so it could also have to do with that.

the reason is slows down when you don't push in the clutch is because there is still load on the tranny from the motor...since the throttle is closed therefor you slow down...where as in an auto it automatically releases the motor's load from the tranny allowing it to free spin thus not slowing down as fast..

there is no real huge difference as its the same motor....you'll have more control IMO over wats going on and how the motor stays/leaves the powerband but thats about it..
