Hey everyone, just looking to see if there's anyone out there who has done the 3SGTE swap and also converted to right hand drive. I'm just trying to find out some info before I start any real work. Thanks in advance,

Robert

if you live in japan... cant u just buy a RHD one?

it would be a pain to convert over, since a lot of stuff has to be relocated. its not a quick and easy job.

Bacertune, the guy who is converting the GT4 wrc spend only 1000 euros on parts from the salvage/junkyard. So if your in luck you could do it cheap, if you have the knowledge+time!

Well, I decided to try something drastic, providing it isn't expensive. Anyone know what parts I need to take from a RHD to convert the LHD to RHD? Or how about a listing of the parts, my searches have turned up nothing, thanks in advance.

Just get a RHD bulkhead!!!!!! weld it in.....RHD Dash and away ya go. All other parts are interchangeable....you might need a new accelerator cable and you will need a new steering rack (forgot about that one)

Oh...and if your going to be really fussy you`ll need to get RHD seats too as they are different from left to right.

You would have to make some changes to the wiring loom, but nothing beyond either lenghtening or shortening cables., but again if you were fussy you`d put a RHD loom in there aswell.

I keep thinking of stuff......youd need to relocate the handbrake aswell

you'll need basically everything from a ST205 front clip minus the motor...

2 interior wiring harnesses, door panels, dash, center consol, ebrake, steering wheel sub assembly, a/c parts, dash support bar, a/c duct, brake master cylinder, shifter cables?, firewall, brake lines, everything ever attached to the firewall, clutch resevoir, windshield wiper motor and arms, ect.. ect...

I wanted to do one for a customer but he chickened out on me! Looks easy after completely disassembling a front clip.

2 interior wiring harnesses - Makes life easyer
door panels - Not totally necessary
dash - Yep....defo
center consol - Yep defo
ebrake - yep defo
steering wheel sub assembly - No you can use the old one
a/c parts -?????
dash support bar - you could adapt the old one
a/c duct - Yep, but will probably come with the dash if you get a second hand one
brake master cylinder - No you can use the old one
shifter cables - No you can use the old ones
firewall/bulkhead 0 yes...makes life easyer
brake lines - just make up new ones from a kit
everything ever attached to the firewall - no...some things are useable
clutch resevoir - No you can use the old one
windshield wiper motor - Nope use the old one
arms - Yes although you could try to adapt (bend) the old ones

I've seen a LHD to RHD (or vice-versa) where they used the original ebrake instead of moving it. The handle was just on the passenger side, like an MR2. So it's not necessary at all, more of a personal preference thing.

You need some way to convert the wipers,
LHD=|\ |\ so you can see better on the left
RHD=/| /| so you can see better on the left

I don't know how you could bend them, I would think you'd need to replace them.

What I'm most likely going to do, if it's not too expensive is have a curren/celica front clip (at least from steeringwheel/stickshift forward) shipped to the states. I'm looking into it right now. As for the interrior panels and dash and such, I'm not a bit worried about that stuff, I'm going to do a complete custom interrior, and I know it sounds kinda stupid/arrogant, whatever you wanna call it, I'm going to fabricate a full custom bodykit, molded into the rest of the body, It'll be a REAL wide kit, (as long as everything goes according to plan anyways:D) and to top it off, '02 Silvia headlights, and '92 Skyline tail lights(this is a maybe, I might find different tail lights depending on the design of the rear kit I decide on)

So I have a lot of work ahead of me, got a lot of plans drawn out for it, long story longer, you simply will not recognize it as a Celica when I'm through with it biggrin.gif also, before I do any cosmetic changes, I'm going to get all the mechanical stuff up and running, 4SGTE, rebuilt and having a lot of goodys put in it.

1) 2 wiring harnesses you will need because its not as simple as flipping it over, mounting points, lengths, plugs are all different per each side of the car (the way the exterior harnesses come into the car, fuse box, motor harness ect. its all effected)
2) door panels- not really a necessity but how are you going to control when the wires are on the other door for the controls?
3) dash = self explanitory
4) center consol = self explanitory
5) e-brake = different angle and mounting
6) Steering wheel sub assembly...might be able to use the old one but mounting points might be different on the new RHD dash support beam
7) AC parts = must if you want a/c because it faces the opposite direction not to mention mounting and running the ducting is all different, ducting comes out with the RHD dash and is needed as well
8) brake master cylinder i doubt you can reuse as the brake lines have to now run the opposite direction and the bends for the brake lines will be opposite and thus not wrapping over the master cylinder and booster correctly
9) Dash support bar is a MUST in swapping to RHD it has all the mounting tabs for your air bags and steering column....you can't swap without it
10) firewall is a MUST HAVE there is no way you can do it with out it
11) brake lines just take off the front clip...or bend your own custom lines but they are all opposite in mounting points on the firewall, bend differently
12) clutch master cylinder potentially use the old but why not use the one that was made for RHD off the clip? common sense will ring in here
13) wiper motor will not bolt up the same as it has to face the opposite direction in the engine bay, move the opposite direction
14) you can't bend the wiper arms that are located inside the frame although rotating them might work...yet again if its in the clip why not use it? its ment to be there

15) use wat you can from the ST205 front clip (what you would need to make this work) even if its a small thing, all the RHD parts work in conjunction and are on the clip so why waste money, time and effort trying to make LHD stuff work? common sense on this one

You will need basicly a lot of thing - some of them - yes they are interchargible - but some are pure side specifics. if you search General Topics you will find a tread where I and BaceTuner discused whats needed fot RHD > LHD swap..

The easyest way would be to get basicly WHOLE cut of the front dash. The hardest part - Reweld the Firewall. You will need to remove your front window if you wanna make the job RIGHT. there is a way to not do this - but you will have to experimentate..

As for the WIRING - you CAN USE THE SAME wiring. its just what you will need to "Rotate it". All the fuseboxes all the plugs and etc will be in the same places if you do this right - but if you can get your self RHD wiring - then get it and avoid the hastle!

You will only need 2 of the brake lines to be extended (made new ones), they will go OFF the main cilinder to the ABS unit. You can use the existing brake cilinder.
