Let me start off with i didnt know where to post this cuz i dont know what went wrong with my car and I also did not try to do the following. and i do not think driving like this should be condoned if intentional!
so i had just gotten done with my morning workout and was driving home. I took a left turn like I normally do with a bit of speed but nothing outrageous. Just wanted to make the light. Next thing I know my car is whipping around and I ended up doing a 270. (3/4th of a whole turn) im sitting there thinking "just dont let me hit a car or a curb" but it came out really smoothly. I sit there for a second and im like what just happened so then i get myself facing towards the way i wanted to go and then took off towards home. now my question is: Is it my rear tires? My front ones are new so maybe the rear are just not following with the car? i dont know. At that moment I wasnt scared but afterwards i was like OH CRAP how did i do that and why did it happen and thank god i didnt hit anyone, any car, or any curbs! can someone please tell me whats causing my car to lose control? besides the driver.. cuz like i said ive taken this corner and others at the speed i was doing and its only been lately that i feel the car is losing control mid turns. I guess it just wants to be a RWD car and go drifting :-) aww i wish! so please dont flame me for what i did. it wasnt intentional and the speed was really not excessive though it probably was a factor that played a role in todays event. -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

nat, are your rear tires worn?
that "could" help the rear end come around like that. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Happens all the time!:P
nah really, the celica's rear can be very unpredictable at times, and yes, if your tires are very worn it just adds to it. |

Nat wasnt your car pulling to one side? My car was pulling to the right and i ignored it and it ended up wearing my tires out and almost lost control. Check your tread.

That happened to me on a highway on-ramp once. Slightly wet road and rear tires were worn.

My tires are completly worn, no more then 1,0mm of profile left. (waiting on my new rims + tires later this week) I still can drive through any curve with no problem. Im really amazed by these tires how good they are. AVON ZZ3 215/45/17. Never heard of a Celica getting its rearend whipped

Usually if ive ever had any problem the car will just slide a bit over on the road but its never whipped around like that -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

That just happened to me last week. I was doing a u turn under an overpass and my rear came loose... luckily my car didnt hit the near by guard-rail. It ended up being my rear tires. Celicas already have a pretty light rear so when the tires start to get low tread on them, it only makes it that much worse. All new tires on now! Got some new Fuzion ZRi tires on and it seems to handle really well.

I guess it just wants to be a RWD car and go drifting :-) aww i wish! It sounds like what happened to you was oversteer. generally, unless something is wrong with your car (like popped or worn tires), what your car does is a direct result of your input. again, something could be wrong with your car, but more than likely, it was a machine simply following your input of speed and cornering. the contact patch of a tire can only do so much at once, and that turn at that speed called for more than 100% of tire tread. go karting can help you learn to control oversteer and understeer, or you can take a safety/roadracing class to learn how to handle emergencies. |

Regular brakes in a corner will act like an e-brake
if the fronts are worn worse than the rear. Ur dad was a racer I think I heard once so you prolly know not to brake in a corner. -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

Yeah i did that on the onramp to I-5 off balanger way once, slick road and worn tires, well check the tire tread and if your not sure try taking it to an open parking lot and doing some sharp turns see if it happens again could have just been something on the road like a puddle of oil or water, or even sand or something.
nice to hear you and your car maid it though the driftage safely (side note: I've seen you on the road like 3-4 times the last few weeks on 124th, I wave sometimes, but I'm rocking the big green minivan so I doubt you would notice.) QUOTE but im in a microsoft level 3 class right now what is a level 3 class, like for a cert? what are they teaching? and it might help to pay attention in class QUOTE you prolly know not to brake in a corner. actualy if you break in a corner (with good tires ) the weight transer would give you more grip, but also would shift weight off the rears allowing the back to slide easyer.
