i was under the impression that a port and polish was just making your engine back to stock and overhauling it, i thought if you bored it out and possible made it from a 2.2 to a 2.3 or 2.4 then maybe you would see that kind of gain, but 30-40hp from a port and polish?

Thats what it does right it bores it out some and cleans everythign out so the air goes through freeier. Maybe I am mistaken but its kinda liek borign it out right. Im not sure about that either my friend did it to his stang and he lost lots of bottom end!

I did a P&P on my old 5sfe... ended up blowing the motor... but gave me a reason to buy a 3sgte! P&Ped the 3sgte...different shop... and have had no probs with it sofar.
I noticed quite a bit of gain on the 5sfe but it only lasted about 2 weeks. The 3sgte didn't have quite the same gain but this was the 1st thing that I did to it and have since noticed that I get really good gains when ever I add anything new to the motor so maybe I haven't reached the full potential of the P&P yet. -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

You are kind of right about the port and polish and the bore. It basically restores lost power, but will put it over stock if done right... and please DON'T bust out a dremel and try this yourself! As for changing the displacement ex.. 2.2 to a 2.4 this is done by boring and resleveing your cylinder walls. you will aslo need to install new pistions to get the best gains out of this. Keep in mind that if you are going to turbo your car you need to not go too big in a displacement change. Also new cams and gears would be a smart thing to do if you are thinking about P&P and/or boring. Talk to a tech shop before doing anything like this they will be able to suggest which route would be the best for what you want the engine to do when it is done. -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

theres a shop around here called kc head... hehehe head . but ne waz they do that stuff i think a guy got it done to his kia for 400 dollars, they also do head work to and that puts out some significant gains from what ive heard. its pretty kool cuz if u take ur car in to get head work theyll pop another stock head on for you so you dont have to be without a car for 2 weeks just my .02
