Ok, my car has had a 3800rpm redline. Has since I bought it over a year and a half ago. Got some advice about it, not alot. I dont know what else to do or look for. I finally just got my transmission put back in and started the car (with new ecu this time) and still no rev. I'm tired of my ass slow gt. I'm probblly just going to sell it when i get it all fixed. Or let my girlfriend drive it, well no car deserves that so I'll probablly just sell it and loose a lot of money. mad.gif

Sounds like an ignitor problem, did you replace it?

What's this limiter like?? Does it just hit a wall and stop without sounding choppy or does it break up at 3800 RPM??

An initial thought of mine would be your fuel pump. Have you checked fuel pressure?? Make sure you hvae a load on the car and you're not trying to check it by neutral revving the car like I had a lincoln dealership do. A neutral rev won't tell you crap. You need to hook the pressure gauge up and tape it to the windshield and drive the car (of course this is all null if you have a pressure gauge mounted int he car).

No, I have not replaced my ignitor. How do I check it??? The limiter Doesnt bounce like a normal limiter. It does, but slower. Revs fine until 3,800 in gear or in neutral, no difference. When it gets there it slowlly fluctuates from 3,600 to 3,900 back and forth like a wierd aggrivating limiter smile.gif

I used to have an extra 5sfe ignitor but i cant remember where I put it but I will take a look for it and send it to you if I find it.

It very much sounds like the ignitor because I had this exact same problem with my 3s and it was the ignitor.

all you have to do, is check your diagnostic codes. if its your ignitor, then it will throw a code for that. what year is your car? ST or GT?

i had the same problem wen i tried to use my 5s ignitor on my 3sgte.

Its a gt. I have had a diagnostics check and the toyota dealership said that i had a bad egr valve. They didnt say anything about an ignitor. That cost $70 i think. So i really dont want to do that again. But do you think thats still it?

Oh, and they told me that it was probablly my egr valve so I bought a new one i think it was $170 at advanced auto, put it on, still no rev frown.gif

I'm with Fastbird - sounds like a fuel line issue. I had a clogged filter in the tank (bad gas compliments of Shell) and it did the same thing.

Did the dealer run a diagnostic? They should have been able to tell you the Diagnostic Trouble Codes. It sounds like they didn't help you any by saying your egr valve.
Personally I would tell them that I wanted a printout of the codes from the time you they told you it was the egr valve.
Without the codes your most likely to spend a of of time chasing opinions. Some may be exactly right. You already know it can get expensive replacing parts.
So far your out the money for the egr valve and the price for the visit to the dealer. I’d bring the question to them and ask them to give you the diagnostic codes from the time when they did the “diagnostic”, or give you a reason why you can’t have them.
They’re willing to charge for the time they should be able to demostrate why they diagnosed the egr valve when there still is a problem.
If there’s a code your time will be better spent.

btw. Why do you have a new ecu?

Dj,
Alot of car places will run the check for free. Autozone does it, and I think checkers will. You can do it also.
look for the stickie on it. No need to spend money at the dealer.Try the igniter. If Dustin(batman) don't have one try kristin on the forums.
