I am thinking im going to 3sgte swap this summer and im looking and trannys now. I've located a e153 solara tranny from a 99-02 model and asked the guy if it had a lsd and he said he didn't know. is there anyway that one can tell just by looking at the tranny housing? THANKS

On LSD-equipped cars, the A/TM designation on the dataplate in the driver's door will be 733/e153, or 735/e153

It is a visous coupling and CANNOT be identified by jacking the car up and turning one wheel.

If you look into the axle port of a factory LSD tranny, there will be visible bar between the 2 sides.*
*E153 Trans only, ALL S54 transmissions have this bar...NO S54 has an OEM LSD.

No solara E-153 came with LSD's stock. The same aftermarket ones (as the MR2T) work though.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Correct me if I'm wrong but MR2's and Celica's fitted with BEAMS 3S-GE's came with LSD's from factory on a S54 transmission.

Why was this moved to the "Forced Induction" section when there is a section specificly for "Engine/Transmision/Maintenance?" If I were searching for information regarding a transmission it'd be easier if this topic were in the correct part of the forums.

I moved it, because this transmission would only be used with a 3sgte. Anything related to the 3sgte will be moved to this forum. Engine/Transmision/Maintenance should be about the 5sfe, 7afe 3sge, and 4age engines and transmissions.

The E135 was never a stock Celica tranny.

This question comes up time a swapper wants to use a e153 with a 3sgte swap.

Not necessarily true. It'll bolt up to, and work just fine with, the 5SFE. 3SFE, 3SGE, and the Camy and Solara's V6 (all Naturally Aspirated). It may be more common right now for it to be used with the 3SGTE but In order to find this topic when this thread gets burried I think it should be in the sub-forum with "Transmission" in it's title.

Show me a 6th gen not running a 3sgte use an E-153. Then I'll gladly move it back.

That probably won't happen until the v6 swap is done, but that's not what is important though. To someone trying to find information regarding that transmission they are going to search in the forum that is labeled "Transmission". I'm sorry, but that is not a hard concept to grasp.

If a member wants swap information they will search this forum (FI) and this forum only. This thread is about using e-153 tranny with a 3sgte. The member asked how to tell if it is LSD or not.

If it was stated "I'm swapping a 3SGE I wanted to use the E153 tranny" I would have left it. I see E/T/M forum as N.A. Platforms only. Which this thread is clearly not about.

That's how you see it... not how everyone else sees it. If it were N.A. only don't you think Coomer would have labeled it as such? This thread is about a transmission and wether or not it has LSD. N.A. or F.I. shouldn't really matter when you have a sub-forum for transmissions. Would you move a topic if someone was asking about their C52 powered by a 7AFTE?

Are you saying that any aftermarket LSD for E153 from MR2T will work with solara E153 ('99) ?

If so, is there anything else required to get LSD working on solara tranny ? ABS, axels ??

How does installation of an LSD look? pop the tranny open and plug&play smile.gif ?

"JDM TOYOTA SW20 MR2 Turbo TRD 2-WAY LSD
This is the Real JDM TRD Limited Slip Differential
Condition : Practically Brand New condition. Pulled from a 1995 SW20 MR2 Turbo with less than 6000 KM on this LSD."

365$ - Is that a good deal?
TRD 2-WAY LSD - Is it a good product? (I believe so)
anyone?

how much work would go into installing an aftermarket or oem lsd? (or how much would a tranny shop charge for labor?) (i assume its something most people cant do on their own?)
