so..after i come back from my trip to france, im gonna have some $ to play around with..so i figure i would dress up the celi a bit. So im thinkin of gettin some pre-facelift splitters and this gangs jail rear lip..minus the plate relocation
splitters now..i posted a topic about this rear lip b4 and pretty much every one said "Its hard to make a car look good without side skirts when you have lips." My arguement for this is, has any one actually seen the semetrics of our car stock?? From the rear bumper to where the stock rockers lay, its about 2 inches higher. same with the front..the front bumper is about an inch n a half or more higher up than the oem rockers. The reason i wanna get my splitters and rear lip is to even out this gap..bring the body line straighter/ let it flow more. By adding side skirts, you increase that offset more..hense why im sayin no skirts. Any one see my point? now would you still say "get sides" ?? or do you see where im coming from. Nader and i had about a half hour conversasion about this and the body styling of the car last night after the toyota nation meet. |

i understand what your trying to say. but itll still look funny without side skirts. the splitters make the sides come down lower. they dont sit flush to the stock look like you think they do. im tired and not typing right. but this my drawing, is how itll look
stock ---- ----------------- ----- with splitters on front and lip on back ___------------------____ okay. bad drwawing but maybe youll get the point now in stock yes , the rear bumper + front bumper are at a angle towards the sides like this front \ __sides__ /back but the splitter and lip will just make the angle even bigger and it will pass where it normally goes. like . hmm the angle will be longer on the front and rear making a gap between the front and back bumper where the side skirts should be. basically what im trying to say through all this nonsense is that the lip and splitters will not even out that angle itll just elongate and make the sides look funny.. soo if you understood anyof that maybe youll understand why poeple say u need side skirts when u put a front and rear lip on your car. (sorry im really tired. haha) |

u say with splitters and stuff every thing will be like this
___----------___ but the thing is..the car right now is like this ---__________---- i want every thing to be like this when im done _______________ i want the body line to flow flat. Ive seen lil_lissa's car with her ssIII splitters and hiro rear with no sides and it all lines up beautifuly. see what i mean?..like there might be like 1/8th of an inch lower with the splitters in the front..but i mean whats really an 1/8th of an inch? if i add skirts to the splitters and the lip its gonna look like this again ----_____---- ill post a pic l8er 2day or tomorrow of what i mean about the gapping and show you how different it is. |

I really have no idea of the alignment because I dont have a kit...
However, I do agree on you Valo666 on what you are trying to communicate. For me, that very reason has been why I never really liked my 6g. It always looked like a bullet head. Very coned at the front.. I always wished that it was flat.. like how it would look like with the erebuni 404 kit. Same to the back also.. it cruves up. |

yep... the splitters with my stock sides look excellent...
the rear is actually still a bit higher than the sides after i put the splitters on... ill post some more pics from the side so you can see better so sorry "limitedST" but you're wrong on this one. as you can tell from the pics, after putting splitters on my car, and having only stock sides, the rear still sits higher than the sides.. and the front is only a centimeters difference -------------------- lissa | 1997 Celica Convertible

Actually i have to disagree LimtedST was right, u have to understand Valo666 does have the advantage of the convertibles stock sideskirt or any skirt for that matter. Because of this just front and rear splitters wont look right.

I am going the opposite and agreeing with St. Lil lissa does have skirts. There convertible skirts and only
fit convertible models. She had them painted red. Without them, her car would look funny. In my honest opinion, you need side skirts. It just don't look right. Your talking to a man whos had at least 4 different types of sidekirts on my car. Ive made 2 sets of custom ones, had vaders and honestly, I didn't like any. The stock sideskirts are about the only ones I have liked. |
