I have a friend (I posted about him here and now there are more problems.

this is what is happening (sometimes, just more lately)

94 GT auto, sometimes when you try to start the car, it starts, but none of the gauges work, nothing lights up (clock and radio) and he cannot get it out of park. It seems like when he turns the key, it doesn't turn the car "on" it only starts it.

and if he is sitting at idle in park, the battery light comes on, all of the gauges stop working, ect... and he cannot get it out of park.

my best guesses are

that there is a short somewhere
soemthing wrong with his ignition

things I have checked
all fuses, battery cables, alternator is fine, battery

wtf do I do now ? what should I check ? has this ever happen to you ? I am at a loss right now...

thanks guys

It sounds logical there is some ignition problem. Because if you turn keys (not starting engine up) gauges, clock, radio, etc. must turn on... If not problem should in ignition switch (just for sure, I'm talking about this biggrin.gif )

I agree you should check the switch. Another thing is does the radio come on in accesory mode? then check the wiring between the fuse box and the switch.

the radio does not come one at all when this happens.

I am thinking it is the voltage regulator. I swapped his alternator last night and I will find out if it continues in the next few days....
