ok guys (and girls) ive been told that if i want some real power i should swap my 5sfe to a 3s-gte. I would love to do this, but i also want to make my car a stick and get rid of my slushbox tranny. I'm riding a 94 gt coupe. Ive been browsing the web for the last few weeks searching for things to add power to my car, but it got me seriously thinking about the engine swap. I guess these are the questions i have:

Ballpark what would it cost me to swap the engine and convert to stick? (if i do all the work)

Is this practical if im only keeping the car for another 14 months (can't have a car at college until senior year, and im headed to prep school for a year first, BUT who knows maybe ill fall in love with the car too much and keep it through the duration.)

Or should i just pack a little more into the 5sfe and live with the auto for now? ( or tranny swap and keep the 5sfe)

I'm just lost at this point on what i want to do and should do..

thanks
-Jesse

if you are only keeping the car another 14 months i do not know that id suggest it, and i think if you set aside 4k for the swap youd be safe

i guess ill keep the engine stock, and dump some $$ into the exterior. Maybe a cat-back and possibly a header, but we shall see.
thanks for the reply, i didnt know it would cost that much to swap out, but that sounds realistic

if you plan to get rid of the car in 14months, then why would you want to spend any money on it at all? just keep it the way it is. anything else would be like throwing money out the window

I agree with Lagos smile.gif
If you were gonna keep
your car, sure do it, otherwise
I think its a waste of money.
But once you do the swap you
might not want to sell it wink.gif

well i want a nice car to drive for 14 months, and money isn't an issue right now. If i did enough work to the car that i didn't want to sell it then i would keep it, it just wouldnt get driven much at all for three years. and then when i could start driving it again it would be a 16 year old car.... thats why i figured id sell it, while it still held value.

Just curious but where are you going to school. Judging by you saying "prep" school and no car until senior year, I'm presuming a military academy??? They're the only ones I've heard of with the no car until senior year rule.
