hey guys, sorry for this, but after reading a bunch of posts, i would just like to know for sure
i am gonna buy lowering springs/KYB's any day now, but just wondering, do i need a spring compressor? i know it can be done without but easily and safely? i was just thinking that if i need one, i dont have one so would have to track one down. but yeah, i know alot of ppl said they didnt use one, i just want to check. thanks guys

u need spring compressor just to be on the safe side. you can rent it from autozone or any other auto stores.

No, that's total bull, I did my fronts myself, and they're under more pressure than the back. The bolt popped off about a foot. It's not like they're under any crazy pressure. I had my mechanic do the rears cause I needed other work done back there.

you dont need one but for safety id recommend some for the fronts. if you have air tools then that makes the job allot eaiser.

yeah its about 50-60 bux to rent. i had to used them when i raised my car back up

I just did new F and R struts and springs last week. It is actually easier than I thought it would be.

I did not use a spring compresser.

Before I started, I loosened the top nuts about 95%. Then after I removed the strut assemblies from the car, I layed it on the ground and finished removing the nut. It popped off about 1 foot away from me MAX.

When putting the new assembly back together, I held the strut upright, had someone push down on the top and I turned the nut. Easy as pie.

Just make sure you put it all back together properly. That's it.

alrighty guys, so no on the compressor, my mechanic friends that are gonna help me are very doubtful but i told them that u guys said u dont need one so im gonna do it without. thanks for the imput!

I'd use a spring compressor when putting on stock springs, but I don't understand what you guys are crying about, the stock suspension isn't under enough pressure to shoot the retainer bolt off hard enough.

one more thing guys, you suggest getting KYB's at the same time at the springs, ive got the impression that the stock struts dont hold up too well with the new springs, is that true?

might as well pick up some bearing grease while your there...lube up the strut bearings and if you dare, pull your rear hub and bearings nad apply some more grease.
