Hey!

I'm new here and have som questions I hope to get answered! ( I'm A 18 year old boy from Sweden if anyone's asking... So don't be to upset if my language isn't what it some times should be.. )

So, just bought my self an 6gc -95, yesterday (payed for every penny myself, so not some spoiled brat! ). It's some distance from me though so I won't be able to get until later on in about 2 week's.

-->However, it's the 1,8 liter engine and it has started to get me a bit conserned.. Is it really that slow as everybody here seem to think it is? Haven't seen, or driven it jet so i have no clue what it's capable of. Fun to drive?.. It's my first car and expectations are high.. And if it really are that slow, are there any relatively sheap ways to tune it up a bit, except addig a turbo?

And so I have one more question; How much does the car weigh ?! I have scanned all the internet for some answers but can't find any! I now the fifth generation weigh around 1350 kg, but I guess our's are less heavier, right?

Hope you can help me out, would mean a lot to me smile.gif.
take care!

/alex

Welcome to 6gc!!!! I have the same type of celica which is a ST. The GT models are a bit faster but overall 6g celicas are considered slow. There are several engine swaps that can be done and are discussed in great detail in the information section on this site. Most of ALL of your questions can be found on this site as it is the DEFINITIVE site for 6g celicas!!!

The Coupe ST is the lightest stock. They are around 2400lbs.. I believe the Hatchback are around 2450 or higher. The power is alright. I went from a Toyota Previa(Minivan) to the 6GC ST 5-speed. Big difference in feeling and power

I have a 1994 GTS (2.2) and it is my first car as well.
When you first start to drive any sports car is considered fast.

For the set up of this car I would say it moves along pretty decent. I have had my car for a year now and I have enjoyed the car for what it is.

If you want speed there is always a cheaper way to do it. My advice is buy the car you want and make it fast. There is no way to justify any big spending on any car so dont even start. I think you will like this car alot and it is very cool as a first car.

Enjoy

My first car was a 1987 celica GT, not bad. now I have a 1995 celica ST ( same as you ) and It's fast enough. it's a wonderfull car and you'll enjoy for long time if you take care of it.

the celicas are slow unless you want force induction or engine swap, or major engine upgrade, it is slow....even with the basic I/H/E, the best you'd probably run is like what......? high 15s??? where's all the people with bolts on and time slips at? post quarter mile times in my thread yo!....http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=36608

Assuming that the car is in good condition and everything works okay, then there is no reason whatsoever why it should live up to your expectations.

Probably a good thing to start with a low powered car - then get more power when you get more experience. I know that there are people her who will be upset with this comment, but statistics show that youth and fast cars simply don't mix. Whether you like it or not, it's a worldwide fact. A vast amount of new drivers simply don't have the experience to cope with a big engine high powered car. So good on you for making a smart first choice biggrin.gif Don't forget to post some pics when you get it wink.gif

i too have a 95 st. and when i first got it, i thought it was pretty damn fast. considering i used to drive a pick-up truck and i learned to drive stick with my dad's 25-year-old benz that only has 4 gears and takes forever to hit 2nd. yeah... our car's are slow, but they're not bad. they've got a good amount of torque, plus they don't weigh much. and it handles well so you can take a corner pretty fast. basically... you'll have fun with this car. plus it looks great. and you'll find a lot of info on this site.
