Its Alpine....I can ASSURE you that you'll get a clean sound out of it, they don't sell bad sounding stereos.
Why would they soak that much R&D into a high-tech headunit, and then cheap out on the sound quality, right?

Buy it, I've always wanted a double-din DVD unit like that. thumbsup.gif

Preout is 2V before clipping which really sux, compare to Eclipse 8V. Dont see a parametric EQ in it or any time alighement. So like I said its an alright unit if u are not looking for soundquality (maybe u didnt understand what i was trying to say about SQ= SoundQuality competitions = extremely good sound) but if what you looking for is just a good HU for daily listening and prolly some mid-end speakers and probably untuned. Then it will be alright.

It looks decent. Only drawback is timealignment and preout voltage.

Timealignment... well most of the people would not know how to use it anyway so it is not a big issue and depending on your install, you would not need it. It is nice to have but not a necessity.

regarding preout voltage, yes it is nice to have 4v, 6v or 8v but it is not a major concern. Yes, it means that you need to turn your amp gains up to get the same volume. It would lead to a higher chance of induced noise in the system but more often than not, if your installation is done right. It would not be biggie.

you guys make it sound like everyone wants to build a show-winning audio system lol

honestly i have no idea what time-alignment means, but i'm sure the extra $200 or somethin to get it as a feature in a head unit totally isn't worth it. I just put in an Alpine 9853 and it's amazing for $240, even on my stock speakers before my components get here. I just want a good sounding stereo without putting out a lot of cash, and yeah 2v is JUST fine, you won't be winning any sound competitions or anything but for a stereo in a DD it doesn't really matter

Unless you're doing a competition system, 1 Preamp output is really all you need for subs.
If you run an amp for your subs and your components, I'd suggest a larger alternator and possibly a dual battery setup.
And that's just crazy for a daily driver.

Now I agree that a 3 or 5V output would make a difference in sound quality,
but probably not enough for a non-audiophile to notice.
I've never had more than a 2V preamp output, and I've been happy with that.

I felt a big difference when I switched from 2.7V(panasonic) to 8V(eclipse). The music got a lot crispier and better sounding over all, but that might just be going from crappy panasonic to eclipse. I've had alpine before and it sounded pretty damn good. I'd say better then Stock/Clarion/Panasonic. But it didn't come anywhere close to Eclipse smile.gif. So like I said if you are not addicted to extremely good sound systems and you are not going to compete in SQ class. Pretty much any alpine will do the job. And if u wanna go SPL with low voltage pre-out deck like the one we are talking about in this thread. You can just buy AudioControl OverDrive, this thing will bring the voltage up to 12V. There are some drawbacks if using this unit but only if u compete in SQ. This unit can be had for about $100 (one of my friends had this unit before he upgraded to Eclipse deck and it worked pretty good).
TimeAlighment - is an option in high end decks that works like sound delay. Here's a lil explanation for ya ppl. The perfect listening position in Home Sound system is right in the middle of two speakers because stage and everything else meets at that point. The thing with cars is that driver sits closer to one speaker which screws up what sounds come at which time. So thats where time alighment kick's in, it delays the speaker closer to u by millisecond's and makes it so the sound from to speakers arive at your ears at the same time.
Equalizer is another good things to have, and I am not talking about equalizers that mid-decks come with. I am talking about Parametric EQ's and 260point band EQ's. Because our cars are made from different materials, some like carpet and seats absorb frequencies and dash, plastic reflects it. Which amplifies or kills some frequencies, so with a use of EQ and some really good tuning all the frequencies can be played.
PS: People that say "hey I bought a clarion and it sounds just fine" or "I just put in an Alpine 9853 and it's amazing for $240, even on my stock speakers before my components get here." probably never sat in a car with a good system. I'll be coming to NY celica meet this summer and I am pretty sure my car will be done by then, I'll let a couple of people in to listen and see whats the different between system and a good system.

I thought Pioneer is coming out with one that they claimed included the best "navigation system"....

Does this Alpine have a Nav?
