Im coming to the conclusion that SPEC clutchs are junk...i wish i woulda never put the spec stage 3 in my mr2. It has almost 12k miles on it now and its working great but seeing all these problems isnt very promising.

I installed a fresh 3S-GE clutch with the swap. It doesn't have the bite at a dead still like a performance one but still it does everything smoothly so far.
Maybe in the future when needed I will get a Ogura or C-One clutch if I keep this tranny. -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

QUOTE(lagos @ May 9, 2006 - 10:17 PM) the 3sge was also sold in the 4th gen celica. not saying thats what jeff has, just that it might be something to look into, also. if the insides of the jdm s54 were any different, wouldnt they change the model number of the trans? Art, did anyone ever look into this and see if it might be an option for LSD? -------------------- Teh Celica sleeps for Winter '06. Suspension overhaul begins........

Funny. I had a similar problem with mine. Think its that the same spec clutch Doc used on my swap. I came off a highway to a stop light and for the life of me, car would not go into any gear. I was smelling burning clutch and when I finally got it in gear with a massive BRUT force, it was chattering, reving high and smelling. I dropped it off at a repair shop. shop thinks it the clutch. I have only put about 3000miles or so on the clutch since the swap. Now trying to figure out what brand of clutch kit to go with that can be ordered from a local part store so car can be back on the road ASAP.

Well looks like the same thing happened to me, came around a curve, shifted from 2nd to 3rd, gave about 1/2 throttle punch, felt somthing pop and reved to about 7k. spec st2 clutch is most certainly toast. i also started to notice a fairly loud rattle at idle when the pedal was released, thought maybe it was the TB, guess not. I personally installed the clutch and broke it in properly, never dumped the clutch, no powershifting. The fork, TB and input shaft were all well lubed. The flywheel was resurfaced by me and all the metal mating surfaces were cleaned. also i was extra careful to ensure no pressure was on the clutch hub when mating up the trans. i am 100% sure installation was not an issue. tommorow ill get a better look at it, check everything over, and drop the trans if everything looks ok.

Well, I found out what the problem was... it was indeed the spec clutch. There was a metal piece(don't know its name) on the clutch disc that broke off lucky for me it did not destroy anything else. The metal piece is shaped like a little hook and seats between the two clutch disc surfaces. There are several of these hooks, one of them broke off.
