it's possible yes, but there are so many ppl with an auto out there that would trade their car for a manual i would go that route

I would say that your'e going to spend at least 1,000 to do it. You have to buy the tranny and torque converter and such, new ECU, shifter, and I think the gauge cluster for autos is different. Then you have to wire all the stuff etc and remove your manual transmission parts.

Just teach her to drive and that way she wouldn't have to worry about her friends asking her to let them drive, lol.

Switching to an automatic would be a piece of cake. In terms of hardware I think all you'll need is the automatic shifter assembly (I have), the automatic shift cables (I have) and the automatic transmission.

But the time and money spent... might as well get an automatic car.

i did the auto to manual swap and it costs ~$2K. Of course i didnt just want any 6gc, but my specific 6gc, so for me it was worth the money. Assuming it costs the same to go manual to auto, and taking into account that you are giving it to your sister, then i would also suggest trading for an auto 6gc. Im sure youll find a member here who might want to trade.

Haha. My first thought was to let teach her how to drive.

What she and my parents are scared of are the hills. Because we live near the mountains and hills and its a pain. It'll take a while for her to get used to it too. So a girl and her first car, a manual? on hills? Don't think its a good combination.

But since it might not be worth it.. I might just teach her how to drive.
It has about 210k miles on it. What do you guys think?

Re: Hills?

Is it just hill starts that you are concerned about? Most cars are manual in the uk and we have some big hills too, most people manage to negotiate them everyday.

I'd give her lessons in driving it if I were you.

just teach her how to drive it. I'm so glad that I learned how to drive with a manual, I've never owned an auto matic and never will. Driving a manual is just my nature, I go crazy if I have to drive a car that's automatic

It's not that I dont want to.

It's her unwillingness to learn it and my parents. But, either way i guess it'll be that or no car.smile.gif

Just take her out every day for one hour, for a week. Start on the flats, then teach she how to use the e-brake on steep hills till she's confortable. I garentee in a week, she'll feel so fine about it, that you'll wonder why you ever considered doing anything else. Plus, girls that can drive stick are always cooler. wink.gif
