Rod knocking...mmmm. fun. Ok, so here's the scoop: I've got rod knocking, had it looked at by god knows how many people and the general consencous(sp) was that it was a rod. Toyota tells me that it's the Rod bearing, which is what i was told by a mechanic friend of a friend said it could be a bearing (which it looks like to be). Basically, my engine's fuct. It's causing quite a bit of damage, but the tapping doesn't seem to be getting worse, but, hey, what are you gonna do. Also, i seem to be having issues with my right axel, apparently Toyota, (man i love them, they're great at finding things wrong with my car) found that the boot? for my right axel is ripped. So, I've got about another month and the $ will all be in my pocket to swap to another 5sfe...i thought a lot about swapping to a 3sgte and i didn't really want to...i like my engine, plus i'm getting a 120k mile warranty on the engine and lifetime on the labor at the shop i'm going to, so. Just wanted to let ya'll know about the death and re-birth of my clean 98 gt. just for future reference, what all is involved with swapping to a 3sgte? like, would i need a new tranny and whatnot? peace always.

if you get the wiring done for you, swapping in a 3sgte is hardly more difficult than swapping in another 5sfe.
