So I've been thinking about running some Seafoam through my engine. A lot of guys in various clubs with me here have done the same and say it's amazing. My friend's Audi TT was having some valve chatter and such and he cleaned it with Seafoam and now it's PERFECT.

For those who don't know, Seafoam is an engine cleaner/carbon deposit remover. Supposed to put 1/3 in your gas tank, 1/3 in your oil, and 1/3 through a vacuum line like the brake booster then run the car for about 15 minutes (it'll smoke and everything a LOT) then change your oil and boom your done.

What I've heard though is on higher mileage engines it's bad to use something like this because the carbon deposits etc that it cleans out could be blocking leaks, and when they're gone you could spring some engine leaks.

Feedback anyone? I need stuff to do this week lol

im kinda iffy on that idea because our vehicles are not new...some of the chemicals out there for that exact purpose can eat or destroy the rubber gaskets or other lining materials that enables oil or other fluid in the car to leak...newer cars tends to have an advantage because most of the stuff the engine components have are still new and can endure the chemical stuff...ours too old and god knows how many things are engine components needs to be replace, that's why there are different chemicals with the same purposes for different high or low millage cars....BUT THEN AGAIN...THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD...DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT...

seafoam is good stuff lol looked like my car was on fire when i started it tongue.gif. i used seafoam on my former celica and on my mpv and it did wonders on both cars. I put 1/3 in the gas tank, 1/3 in the oil reservoir, and 1/3 into the intake via a vacuum tube going to the throttle body. it actually improved the gas mileage in both my cars by a little and the car ran a bit smoother, but on the celica i did develop some oil leaks because it does remove carbon deposits in your engine that could be blocking a potential leak and i heard it thins out your oil alittle. I changed my oil couple miles after i ran seafoam so i wouldnt know.

yeah you're supposed to change your oil the minute you're done with it because it thins out your oil a lot

I have 135,000 miles and I'm just afraid I'll start leaking really bad haha

I use the stuff quite a bit. It works wonders. No problems here, just use it properly.

If I were to use it, I probably would not put it in my oil. Here is a pretty good thread to look at:

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
