Wastegate was dangling by ONE bolt! laugh.gif

No clue how it got to that point. tongue.gif

My friend tightened all the hardware, replaced gaskets and everything is merry. Car is pulling very hard now. He alligned it...now it drives straight like an arrow...until boosting. Torque steer is still an issue. I wish it was a little bit but it's too much. Either pulls to one side or the other. Another friend of mine drove it and he got scared and almost hit the curb. And he drives an 11 second flat Mirage. rolleyes.gif Anyway, the serious stuff will happen next month...I'll be able to install the EMS and the forged goodies. Anybody have a cure for torque steer? I have never experience such amount in any other turbo FWD car.

If your getting pulling in either direction while your driving on the highway you might have a mount issue.

i don't notice that much torque steer except for off the line. Can't you still get an LSD with an auto tranny? (I know my friend got posi in his auto camaro, but i know posi and LSD are not exactly the same). In any case i'd recomend switching to a manual transmission unless you plan to run much higher boost.

Well, when going plenty fast, it doesn't pull to the side. It's more when rolling or from a dead stop.

EDIT: Mounts are fine...car only has 38,000 miles. The auto tranny is staying in, but we're concocting a little recipe for it. Gosh, less than a month and I'll be able to start the next phase of the project. biggrin.gif

Nothing exciting about an auto 3sgte. I would be disapointed.

why would you be disappointed? an automatic is prefered over manual in a drag setup..since thats wat 99% of this board focuses on an automatic would be really sweet

an automatic 3sgte swap, would really suck. the car would be a lot slower and less fun to drive, and you would really not get as big of a power upgrade from the swap. not to mention that the automatic tranny would not be able to hold the power of the 3sgte.

you cant compare a normal automatic tranny to what they use in drag cars. those are totally different things. most high powered drag cars use a clutchless 4speed shifter. its not the same thing as a normal automatic tranny.

Did you use the old OEM rods? Did you get Toyota replacement pistons and rings, or did you go aftermarket with a different brand? What sort of re-build kit did you buy for gaskets and such, OEM or E-bay special?

Sry for the questions, but I am afraid this is the route I have decided to go.

i know they use clutchless 4spds....i also know boost responds VERY well to and automatic car and doesn't drop off between shifts like a manual car..and i see this as going on a personal preferance...just look at the 7afte crowd..oobe is automatic...nik was stick both setups were pretty quick and did well...i highly doubt an automatic 3sgte would be that much slower maybe a few tenths of a second if that...the "less fun" to drive part is all in each individual's preferance...i like both boosted manual celicas, jettas but i also have tons of fun driving and automatic boosted volvo..now if you had an automatic 3sge tranny it might or might not hold up...we don't know so you can't really make an assumption on that...even so someone could probably rework the torque converter and make it work.....i wouldn't call it dumb until its been done...there was a point in time when people thought someone was dumb for even thinking about a 3sgte swap but look were its at now.....

Yep. I used the old rods, and just replaced the pistons with some replacement ones...I can't remember their brand. I think they're King or something. To be honest, I trust those stock rods...the pistons are the ones that scare the hell out of me. They are so fragile and thin. But the rods I would trust them...they are thin compared to other rods, but I have trust in them. I already pushed the engine to dangerous TGTs and boost levels on stock injectors with that one broke piston for over 6 months and nothing got worse. I have beaten the hell out of that engine and it's still brand new looking and working.

Oh, and I replaced the cam gear seal and all the other gaskets with original Toyota parts. Only non-Toyota parts are the pistons and rings and the reason is because they were in stock...Toyotas were not.

nice setup, OOBE. a few questions for you :

how long has your setup been going, and how much boost are you running?
is the tq steer really that bad?
what are your plans for the future?

I remember your old video, I think you were misfiring or something in one of the cylinders, and the car still looked pretty quick. Do you have any more completed videos?
