lol so coming home on the freeway giving it gas something said "no more" on my 5sfte. I dont think its block/engine related but instead something directly related to exhaust gases or manifold pressure i.e. turbo turbine or egr valve.

so heres the symptoms:

1 ticking noise kinda sounds like a mountain bike going foward but with the pedals not moving.

2 noise only happens on -40 ish kpa any thing less then that it wont tick

3 noise is not dependent on rpm and stays pretty steady all the way through the rmp range if the manifold pressure is above -40 kpa

beacause of these things i think it has something to do with something related to the exhaust gasses that are coming out of the engine. At first while driving i figured maybe my turbo turbine got old and finally said bye bye. but checking my gauges i still was able to attain full boost pressure with out lag. No smoke from bad turbo seals leaking water or oil.

When i got to my house i poped the hood and reved the engine a little and noted that it sounded like the noise was kinda coming from the intake maniflold area which is where the egr vavle and modulater are. I just changed the modulator cus the nipples broke off, but the egr valve is still stock.

tmw im guna c if i can run the vac lines to keep the egr on all the time and c if the noise is more constant.

Is it just me, or is -40 Kpa ALOT of vacuum? .10 is equal to ~14 PSI = 1 Bar, so wouldnt -40 be alot of negative manifold pressure?

In any case, I hope you can find the cause of the sound and fix it without too much trouble. I'll cross my fingers that its nothing too critical. wink.gif

Good luck man.

he prolly means -40mm hg
check the hose going from the EGR valve to the little canister on the left of it, sounds like you blew that hose off.

yup very close i checked it today in the light and it was the hoses from the bottom of the egr modulator and the egr valve that came off.

as for vac im pretty sure at idle im running at -60 ish kpa. i have my settings in kpa both in vac and in neg vac. ill try to wich it over and c what it is.

that was exactly what i was talking about.
both I and vin(shin) have had that happen...sounds scary when it happens under full boost!!
haha

yea. sounds like the hose from the egr valve thingy that happened to me. thought i blew my motor or something. make sure you tighten both ends of the hose. cause if you only tighten one side. the other side will pop off soon.
