Day Ten

...I had trouble with the pieces with large horizontal surfaces getting lots of orange peel. kindasad.gif ...

...The vertical pieces, like the spoiler posts and center section, came out well though...

Maybe you should just hang your hood so you paint it when it is vertical. Then all the "paint fog" will fall on floor, not on the hood. Just an idea.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Day Eleven

Today was tons of work. I first cut out some walls in my makeshift paint booth so that the garage door could open to get the Celica in. Then it had to be extended so that it was wider inside.

Once that was done, I did some final cleaning and masked the car.

Then I finally shot the car.

It came out ok. There's some orange peel and tiger striping on the roof that will need to be cut and buffed. But I'm finally done painting! biggrin.gif

Jaws4God, yes, I'm putting on a TRD replica wing. smile.gif

jgreening, I've already got some OEM front splitters. You can see one in the background in the first picture of day ten. smile.gif

The only other car I've shot with a gun was my old '88 Celica GT, but that was flat black. So this is the first project where I've painted anything a gloss color with a gun. I've painted lots of stuff with rattle cans and read a lot though.

Great work Chris! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

I'm aiming to start my project this August, next month. After a lot of research and watching you do the same, I think I'm ready to give it a try also.

BTW, did you use stuff from Rayflex, Coomer? I've been reading nothing but good stuff about it, just wondering if thats what you used and what your experiences were with it.

Day Twelve

Day twelve consisted of putting the car partially back together so I could drive it up to my apt. and work on sanding it up there so that it can be buffed next weekend.

I'll leave you guys with one picture. The car looks worse in person up close, but it won't for long and should look awesome once buffed. smile.gif

Attached Image

Silver94CelicaOwner, I'm not using the Rayflex paint. I've heard that their support sucks and I read a story about someone who couldn't shoot the stuff using their ratios and have it look good. He had to experiment and use his own mixtures to get it to work suitably.

Kadett, I think I've paid about $250-300 total for all my supplies, paint, etc. smile.gif
