I've been looking at getting the euro-style clear front blinkers for my '94 GT on ebay but they are specified for years 96 and above. I've tried comparing pictures of 94 blinker fixtures to the newer years but it's hard to distinguish. It almost looks as if the 96 and aboves are slightly more angular.

Does anyone know if they are the same size? Or do the 96 and above differ from the 94's?

Any insight would be much appreciated, Thx.

I assume you mean the indicators in the front bumper?

If you look straight at the 2 of them then the pre 96 one is a rectangle with rounded corners (like an oblong) whereas the 96+ ones are more like a parallelogram(?) ( IPB Image and again with curved corners.)

To fit the 96+ ones you would most probably need to modify your bumpers.

You should perhaps try to fit some clear 5gc corner lights, they are more similar to 94 stock ones than 96+ ...

I have asked if someone could try but i didn t get any reply.

I dont think gen5 ones fit either to be honest. I think they are a similar shape, but alot smaller in length.

best bet is to get some clear perspex and modify your current ones. if you put a bit in the oven at 140deg C for about 15-20 minutes it should be soft enough to bend easily. then just dremmel it out and I think if you put the original housing in at about the same temp but remove any rubber and keep checking it then the glue holding the yellow lens will be soft enough to prise it off. Then either hot glue or silicone the clear one on and get a replacement silvertech or yellow led bulb. (I'd go for led, cos I the silvertech bulbs aren't very bright.

try the 5g clear bumper lense....yea they are a lil short but jus modify the "legs" n drill the neccessary hole to fit in the bumper...some ppl jus epoxied it in......

OR you can go the other route n make your own clear bumpers....for the 94-95

Hi 6GC_Menace,

I may be able to help you out. Check my '94-'96 GT/ST 202 clear front lenses

Not cheap but they are hand made and retain all the original markings. They are very close to OEM factory finish. I'm not aware of anybody else supplying these as a direct replacement for the original lens.

The other alternative is ceiling light diffuser......NOT!

Several guys on here have fitted mine and may like to comment, but my view FWIW is if you can't run to the pukka ones, keep the ambers for now. If you cut them out of acrylic sheet they will leak and look crap IMHO.

Regards LED cluster bulbs, be aware that you will almost certainly have to fit ballast resistors as well to stop the relay thinking a bulb has blown(tried them) Also , they look brilliant from the front but are very directional and are not so good at all side on - reduced visibility to others, but down to personal choice.

Yes you will need a ballast resistor placed across the 2 indicator wires. As for the bulbs you can get them with 12 leds facing forwards and 6 facing backwards at an angle, the rear facing ones light is reflected all out of the entire unit, it can be seen from the side perfectly fine. PLUS they will last a hell of alot longer than a conventional bulb.

The only other option with a clear unit is the silver conventional bulbs mate and if you really want to go for those then I'd be expecting to have a crash at some point cos you REALLY cant see those lighting up from any direction unless its at night then they are ok.

Anyway that was your opinion this is mine, we'll just have to disagree.

Well I'd be happy to be proved wrong. I've yet to see a pair that look good and don't leak. Acrylic is also very brittle and much more prone to cracking than the originals which are Polycarbonate.

I use an expensive UV stabilised 2 part Polyurethane resin which has been formulated for automotive use.

I have to be at least reasonably good at this LOL cos it's how I earn my living. I have sold over 150 pairs of Celica lenses alone in the past 10 months albeit the majority being for the GT4 Gen 6. If you'd like to check what some of my customers have said, I have a thread running on www.gt4oc.net which has been on page 1 of the styling forum for nearly a year.

On bulbs, it's not as simple as that. The effectiveness of the illumination and hence the visibility is also largely down to the design and finish of the reflector. Some units have a high chrome backing which is done by electro depostion. However, many like the GT/GT4 are simply sprayed with a slightly matt silver paint. How far the bulb/LED cluster sits into its housing also plays a big part and this varies with different unit designs.

but even with 19 to the front and 6 to the side, they weren't as visible as an amber or a good silver bulb at a 90 deg angle i.e side on to the car

....19 to the front AND 16 to the side but they are £18/pair..... Gulp! I have to say I was also a bit nervous about where to actually fit the resistors as they can get pretty hot

on the load resistors, etc etc....what would i need to do to make the turn signals NOT fast?....ive seen load resistors here:

my friend tried that and it looks great. but its not that short. maybe .3' shorter. the drilling part is the tricky part. careful or you'll have several holes. hehe GL

FAO Wolfie308 -> I aren't having a go at you or your products, I'm sure they are great.

My opinion on the bulbs is that I had a set of silver ones and was very disapointed with them, I was nearly involved in a couple of knocks which luckily we were travelling slow enough to avoid. Regardless of the quality of the reflectors in a light unit, when you look directly at the bulb from even a close distance you would struggle to see them lighting up if it was during the day.

I have used led bulbs for along time now and have been very impressed with both the lighting and the fact that none have ever needed replacing in 3+ years of use. I have them for indicators and I have modified my heater/ac controls to uses leds for all the illumination, I use them for the dash lights and I have even replaced the standard ones in my stereo to change the colour from blue to red. I am making led rear clusters as we speak and I have led reverse/centre brake lights. I am truly happy with them.

As for the resistor, the cables that come pre-attached are a bit short so I replaced them with slightly longer ones and I have screwed both left and right turn signal resistors to the crash bar just behind the fron bumper, not had any problems with these either. I have mounted the resistors for the rear indicators onto the inside metal panel in the boot near to where the cluster bolts come through the panel, again not had any problems with them.

Also - how about these?

They wouldn't show alot from the front, but you'd get alot of reflection around the housing!

No you would only need a load resistor for each bulb socket that you use an led bulb in, your car already has the flasher relay unit so you won't need those again. It looks like those are just so that you can flash any bulb thats plugged into it.
