Even though I haven't been posting recently I would find a spare moment to check up on some topics and one I've been following is ice23q's build of the 5s-gte. Dag-gum it boy show me something more about it!!!!!!AHHHHHHHHH!!!!! It's driving me nuts. I've been thinking of this build and been doing much research. Another guy I follow is wraith on other celica/mr2 forums. It's killing me to see one up and running with some dyno sheets to go along with it. That's probably the one thing I haven't found is dyno sheets on one. Everyone knows how to build it though. I even e-mailed jim snoddgrass concering his and he told me that his broke down before he could dyno it and then he got rid of it.

Come on with it and quit leaving me in suspense!!!!! wink.gif

just out of curiosity why are you turboing a 5sfe instead of doing a 3s-gte swap? is it strictly because of money or for other reasons? i'm trying to decide what to do with mine is why i ask. i'm not sure if i want to just rebuild my engine and turbo it later. do a 3s-ge swap and maybe eventually turbo it. or just go with a 3s-gte swap right off the bat.

i read somewhere that the 'g' in the gte means it's a performance head rather than a fuel-efficient head.

when thinking about that, a question comes to mind: would a 5s-gte (with the additional 0.2L displacement) be more powerful than a 3s-gte?

i'm still very much learning about automotive mechanics so if anyone would care to enlighten me on *why* this would (or would not) be the case, please do so smile.gif

Im not sure about the HP (lets just say it will) but the torque from this setup will go up for sure. I should have some results in the next few week to show you.......

ok ok so is a 5s-gte a 5sfe just turbo charged or is it something different all together? also is the block of a 3sgte stronger or not? i've just heard that a 3sgte has more power potential than a 5sfe is this true or not?

The 5s-gte is a hybrid motor (no, not gas-electric hybrid!). It uses the 5s-fe block (taller deck height and slightly stronger than the 3s) and a 3s-gte head. When done correctly (correct engine internals, correct water/oil passeges, etc.) it can give the best of both worlds - a stronger engine with more displacement, and the ability to flow a lot of air in and out of the motor.

Can anyone verify that the 5s block is stronger than the 3s? because I thought it was the other way around.

Yes. Check out mr2oc.com and do a search. There is a great thread there about the differences between the 3s and 5s block... There are even pictures of sliced open block and graphics showing the differences.
