I called Spec and ordered my clutch kit for the swap. They actually have a part number now for this set-up, the information is as follows:
Spec's tech phone number: 1-205-491-8581 I talked with Justin, who helped me out a ton, great guy to deal with. his extension is 108 The part number for the clutch kit is: ST6225S The SECOND (2) in that part number is the number to reference what stage clutch you would like. I chose a stage two clutch, which i was told will hold 400 ft/lbs of torque. If you wanted a stage 3 clutch the number would be as follows: ST6235S or a stage 1 (not recommended if you plan to add any power to the 3sgte) would be: ST6215S etc. etc. For reference this is what Lagos put together: You need the 5fse - disk 5sfe - throwout bearing 5sfe - alignment tool 3sgte - pressure plate 3sgte - flywheel The clutch kit includes all BUT the flywheel. EDIT: The clutch kit they sell is basically a kit for the 3sgte that will bolt onto the 5sfe Tranny. It is the 3s disk with the 5s spline count For a ballpark figure, i paid 389$ for the stage two clutch kit and after shipping a total of 413$ Hope this helps future swappers! you know, a better idea would be to call spec back, and get them to install the 5s spline onto a 3s disk.
that way, you get the full clamping power of the pp on the disk. its very common, and very easy for them to do. the 5s disk with the 3s PP is the old school. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

that might actually be what they do.. i am not totally sure. when i started mentioning what i was doing and hte parts i needed he told me there was a kit made. If Lago's is around he could tell us if they did that with the splines for him or not. If they did then im guessing that would be the same for this kit they have.

Hey,
Have we taken care of it? If not has he contacted any of us directly? I didn't see any notes saying that he has had a return to us. If you can tell him to give us a call and get it taken care of. That is definitely a fluke issue.......everything else looks good except for the carrier not being connected.. Thanks, Justin -------------------- Justin Ables

justin. i have a small issue thats been bothering me for some time
i was one of the 1st guys to get this hybrid kit from you guys. i ended up with the stage 3 6puck clutch with a normal presure plate. ive had it for about a year now and the clutch seems to hold well and do its job. the only problem i have is that at idle, ill often hear a rattle that goes away when the clutch is pressed in. any ideas on what could cause this and if it could turn into a bigger issue later on? i also found a few posts on mr2oc about other spec users hearing the same rattle. the fly wheel was resurfaced and everything was installed and broken in correctly, btw. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

The rattling i think you are referring to is coming from TOB. That would make sense since you hear it go away when you depress the pedal. Now it shouldn't make for a larger problem so you should be fine. If it is really bothersome you can either go and buy a new TOB or we work something out if you call me. With it being almost over a year old i couldn't just send you one, but i am sure i can help you out to the best of my abilities. If you have any other questions feel free to give me a ring. I am here M-F 7-4 alabama time...(Not to sure thinks thats central)

AWESOME. thanks for the update. im sure john will be happy to get it back up and running! as a sidenote, do you make a lightend flywheel for the 5sfe? cost? if so, could you possibly post a pic or 2? (if you need it hosted, PM the pic to me, ill host it) also, can you give me your recommendation on a setup for my car, its a 94 GT (5sfe) thats turboed, im putting ~275ft lbs to the wheels, and about 235whp, the goal for the car is 250whp. im looking for the lightest pedal feel i can get, while still holding the power of course. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Yes there is a lightened flywheel. Part # ST09A Price is $419. Weight is roughly about 10lbs. It is aluminum and that is the only flywheel we offer for 5SFE motor. As for the clutch I think you would be best in a 2+ holds 305 flywheel torque( part # ST733H). Great daily driver clutch and great peddle pressure. As far as the pics the flywheels all pretty much look the same. You can see what they look like at www.specclutch.com just go to the products section and check out flywheels.

Justin,
Thanks for joining our site, I give you much respect for taking the time. I'm running a spec stage 3 clutch with my setup. Almost 10,000 miles not one problem (knock on wood), I am very happy with my kit. The next time I replace the clutch, I'll be calling your company again. I do alot of drag racing and this kit has not let me down once. Thanks again -------------------- I will return one day. |
