hey guys. well, my brother has a 2001 celica, and i have a 1999 celica.

people are always telling me that i could have just got 1 year up and got a 7th gen, but i always just asnwer "why? i dont want the 2000 one" and they always just answer by saying they think its "better"

but to tell you the truth, i like the 6th generation one more. its more unique in a good way. to me, the 7th generation one looks a bit too stubby and it looks like the rear got cut short and the back bumper is HUMONGOUS. im not hating on the 7th generation, cuz they are great cars.

7th gen gets HELLA good mpg.

and i read somewehre that the 7th gen GT 0-60 is 8.5? thats pretty much the same as the 6th gen.

no no ur 99 is superior in every way:P

no really the 6th gen is higher quality overall, havent you seen how easily a 7th gen gets messed up interior and body panel wise? toyota cut back on quality i believe.

your car's way better. 7th gens are nice and everything. but nothing special. i see them everywhere and its like whatever. now seeing a 6th gen catches my attention. especially one that's been taken cared of and what-not. yeah, our cars are slower stock... but its got a lot of potential.

i really like the front of the 7th gen celicas though. but the sides and the rear realy kill it

the only reason the 7th would be "better" is becuase it has the performance model GTS, which the 6th gen didnt have. if only toyota would have release a limited amount of the GT4 in america like acura did with the type Rs..... then the 6th gen truly would have been superior to the 7th gen.

As a car person in general, I am going to throw my 2 cents in... As for the 7th gen, I think in terms of overall quality and workmanship of the car, it's not nearly as nice as the 6th gen. Most of the materials used inside 2000+ models are not nearly as upscale feeling as that of "our" cars, plain and simple... On a technecal standpoint, however, they walk all over out cars... They are much more geared toward a person who is all "about" owning a sportscar. The GT's are on par, performace wise in numbers with our GT's, with the disctinct difference that in our cars, gearing and the engine are tuned for low speed torque and ease of driving- the oppisite holds true with 7th gens... You have to really want to drive the car hard to get it to perform. GTS's are out of our car's league in stick form- simply put they are for someone who knows how to extract power out of a somewhat fussy drivetrain. If you know how to, however, the rewards the car pays to the driver are far beyond the capabilities our US spec celicas can achieve... Their styling is like nothing else I can think of, and because of that, they are uniquie cars in a design standpoint. Our cars are a clear evolution from both the 5th gen celica, and that of the design basis the "Calty" studio put out with the Lexus SC and Toyota Soarer in late 91. Not a bad thing in my eyes at all, but not unique from an originality standpoint... Overall, I feel that our cars and the 7th gens appeal to different people in general, and from my perspective of what is overall a better car, its clearly the 7th gen- It, like our generation, is a sporty car designed to be above the capabilites of the average car, but the 7th gen has the performace to back up its racy looks and the technology to be somthing different from the norm of toyotas of the time... Thats why i think it's the superior car... 6th gens are a much sexier car to the peron who only wants a car that looks good- if you want a car that drives as well as it looks, the 7th gen is for you...

yes, but your saying the 7th gen is better becuase it has better performance. thats not really fair because the performance model of the 6th generation was never released in the US.

but then again, its not fair comparing the GT4 to the GTS....

but then again, its not fair comparing a 6th gen GT to a 7th gen GTS...

but it is fair comparing the 6th gen GT to the 7th gen GT

the 6th generation celica was ment to competite in the more expencive classes, that is why it was so expencive back then. The 7th generation celica was built to competite gainst the hondas. that is why the interior is more cheap.

But performance wise the 7th generation is a way better base to build off of. The aerodynamics, the longer wheel base and lighter over all body.

BUt i would have picked the 99 celica over the 2000 celica any day. The 2000 is the first model of the new generations, meaning alot of new problems that yet to be figured out. The new 7th generation engine is less stong compared to the 2006 engine.

To me, the 6th Gen GT vs the 7th Gen GT is a no brainer. Of course I am loyal to my 6th Gen b/c I think the quality is a little better with material look and finish, and maybe engine, but I doubt that the 7th Gen is far behind, b/c Toyotas are still near the top in quality. The 7th Gen just doesn't look as solid and the back end look is a lot less to be desired than the 6th Gen Hatch. Comparing power stock, the 7th Gen probably has a slight advantage with the 140 vs 135 HP, but that is not enough difference to justify me buying the 7th Gen (even though the bolt ons are more available and better than the 6th Gen too). Styling wise, I have been a 6gc addict b/c our cars are still one of the rarest sights on the road, and even with my slight mods (compared to many of your sweet rides), my car is a one of a kind sighting to me. I usually drive between a few cities in my area with 350K plus population, and I only see a handful of modified 6gcs (mostly with body kits). Now since I have the GT-Four blocks, lowered, painted calipers, rims, etc, I will probably have to travel to see one of you guys to see a car like mine. It's just a great feeling.

NOW, the 7th Gen GT-S is more tempting obviously b/c of the power difference, with the 180 HP VVT-I high rev engine. That extra lift at top end is sweet thing to experience, and if you are willing to trade off everything I mentioned about the 6th Gen above, go for it!

(Now obviously I am not considering that we can do the 5SFTE, 3S engine swap and all, so I am not using that in my decision versus the GT-S or GT. Pretty much doing a stock vs stock comparison here engine-wise.)

yeah. i just dont like how people bag on my celica cuz its slow, becuase the performance model was never realeased in N america. so obviously they think the 7th gen is better cuz the GTS was realeased.

If you more then 6.4" tall like me, you just dont fit in that little car. 6th gen has much more space then 7th gen.
I also Like the 7th ,but one more thing is the tranny on 7th gen. 5th gear goin bad. There is some lubrication issue.
I'm not sure what exactly it is? Anybody has idea about this?
And yes quality. 6th gen is better than 7th overall( that's my opinion)

AMEN

being tall and owning the 6th gen has worked out well for me, personally im not a fan of the 7th gen's exterior look. I feel as if its too tall and not wide enough. The 6th gen to me has that nice wide hood and once lowered oh boy it looks amazing. This is all opinion of course but that is why i own two 94' celica's and will probably never own a 7th gen.

PS: i read an article somewhere saying that the 6th gen's were produced of a better quality and when toyota made the 7th gen they lowered that elvel of quality due to lack of sales with the 6th gen.

Someone mentioned the 7th gen being created to race honda's

^ i think that is a fairly accurate statement.

I'd go for looks of the 6gc over the performance of the 7gc any day of the week...the look of the 7gc is just cheap looking imho. Eh, swap a 6gc and own a 7gc in a race! tongue.gif

Uhh... 7th gen superior in every way mechanically speaking. Of course this being a 6th gen forum... it's logical to assume everyone here is biased towards the 6th gen.

But yeah... the 7th gen is pretty fugly.

stock for stock our 'jdm' counterparts aren't everything they're scoffed up to be. i think alltracs are slow. too heavy imo. but hey, what do i know.

Id rather have a 7th gen gts over my sixth gen anyday. But the bias on this website is uber, so there's really no point explaining why.

3s-ge's 6th gens, and ever the somewhat rarer beams one, along with the GT-FOUR are the answer to the 7th gens gt-s. They are different car, but the 6th gen was the last real celica so it doesn't matter lol...
