Does anyone know if the stock 96-99 bumpers come with the license plate holder from Toyota?

We've got a front plate law here in Illinois, but the car looks extremely clean without a front plate. It's almost a shame to have to put one on, and since I've seen every other car here on the road without one, I've decided to take it off and deal with the consequence. I also removed the plate holder, and noticed that there were about 4 holes drilled in to the bumper. It doesn't come stock like this, does it?

I've been pulled over once since i've done it, had cops stare at my car, never said anything about it. seen them at intersections, could've been pulled over 100's of times for it but it's never happened. Perhaps i'm just lucky, but I think it's one of those laws which is enforced around here while they catch you doing something a little more serious, or want to give you a hard time.

cops gave me a $60 fine for not having mine...a$$holes. and i didn't have a plate holder or anything, when i got my 98gt it was just screwed into the bumper, but i had it on my dash for the longest time. you could always do what i'm going to do when i get my new bumper...bend the plate and put in in the bumper gap on some mesh or something. offset looks wierd on the celi.

I guess it comes stock, because when I bought the Celi from my aunt, it was 100% stock and it had that plastic plate holder screwed to the bumper. She left it the way she got it from the dealership. smile.gif

that sucks.. i'm getting a new bumper due to a small accident (it's cracked near the headlight) and I really didn't want that little plastic strip bolted to the bumper frown.gif

oh well, thanks anyways for the replies, guys.

i had the holes from the previous plate being screwed straight into the bumper but i didnt put mine on

i had it in the window for awhile but when i got stopped the cop said i had to put it on the front.

since then i got a new bumper... i specifically asked the body shop not to put any holes in it so they just handed me the plastic plate holder (still in my trunk after a year and a half)

it looks soooo much better without the plate! i loooove it!

the cops dont notice at all...its when you have it in the window that they're reminded
and if they do ever say anything i'll just tell them it was messed up in an accident and im waiting for the dmv to send me a new one...just wont tell them how long ago that was biggrin.gif ...im a girl i get away with almost everything anyway tongue.gif

Dealerships definitely do that. When I went to buy my car it had a beautiful clean front bumper and before I went to pick it up they drilled a big red "Oxmoor Toyota" plate right into the front of it. Now it has those holes in it.
