RHD's are legal in most, if not all, of the U.S. It's just one of those "Well you can do that, but we would like you to do this instead..."

QUOTE(JesterDC @ Jun 22, 2006 - 4:25 PM) RHD's are legal in most, if not all, of the U.S. It's just one of those "Well you can do that, but we would like you to do this instead..." the RHD isnt the problem...its the DOT legalization of the car. too much has to be changed for it to be made legal and pass inspection and what not. one of the biggest things is you have to prove it passes crash tests under US standards in which case youd have to provide a car to be crash tested and have toyota sign off that its good [last i heard anyway] normally you can bring one in as a parts car or for race/ show use only. as a parts car it could never be legally registered without swapping the vin as a race/show car theres a certain amount of mileage allowed and its checked every so often of course theres ways to get around these things im interested in how much it all costs and what people did to legally register it in the states This post has been edited by hurley97: Jun 22, 2006 - 4:04 PM -------------------- |

well most of the cars on ebay and such have assigned vins for one reason or another ,kit car etc..
i must point out once car is in US you only have to deal with your local dmv .. you deal with dot and such at border or port .. that is were most problems arise at port but if you get into US then rest is fairly simple depending on what state you live in . the hard part is getting into US but towing through montana border was easy and paperwork done before hand plus 200 bucks in fees and hello USA... in building behind my car is a 94 rhd mr2 and owner has had car for 3 years without issues even with horrible vin swap and 2 police inspections .. -------------------- Old guy with the toys
