I was wondering if anybody has attempted to get a company to make us projecter headlights? There is alot of interest in these and there seems to be quite a few companies that do this. If they were sold cheaper than JDM I would get some. Has any body ever tried?

no, I don't think so...but give it a shot! I'd be interested depending on price. Maybe you could get a GB together!

As much as I'd like to get some kind of GB started, I'm to busy, and it would be a complete disaster. Has anybody ever done other things similar that might, want to make some phone calls, etc. |

This seems like a pretty interesting idea, the only thing is polishing and shaping the glass is so much work, and not to mention having to aquire or make housings, it would get expensive. Just look at the ones Doggy made.

It'll end up just as expensive as regular JDM's.

i think its the fact we have 2 lows and 2 highs, and plus our cars are rare, id rather keep it at jdm, jus think if we had chrome tail lights every other celica on the road would be riced out.. keep it at jdm

I thought it would be a better alternative than to converting our lights to neons like some other people are thinking about doing.

Just look at the ones Doggy made. alot of other aftermarket projector lenses are made from plastic. Some companies charge maybe 150 for a pair since we have four lights, it should possibly come to be around $300 for all four if we can find the right company. |

The only way to curb the expenses of making all four lights would be to use plastic lenses instead of clear glass. That of course would be much less expensive to make, and probably the only way any of these companies would want to do it.
Makes me wonder how hard it would be to make a mould of the stock glass lens, and just make clear ABS plastic lens replacements for our cars. All that would be needed then is a little customization of the factory lamp internals and you'd be about done.....however you'd need something like the stock projectors or Romas' design to be a real projector. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

on another forum we had a group buy once from a company called depot performance lighting... the headlights were made by maxzone... i think people were quite happy with it... the price was $130 a set (but it was for 2 headlights... we need 4) and they needover 30+ people for that price
it was for clear reflector headlamps though. but i'm pretty sure most of you just want the clear lense anyway if you want cheap headlights the only way would be to make them out of plastic... but then remember after a while they will start to oxidize This post has been edited by elvasoshexai: Jun 25, 2006 - 12:50 PM -------------------- |

If you buy a set of all 4 JDM projectors, take it to some company in asia. They'll look at it, copy it, and make it for you. They can pretty much copycat anything. Then you can take those, come back to the states, and sell them. Main problem is you'll have to upfront a crap load of money. This is basically what most aftermarket automotive companies do.

Okay, I just sent a few emails to ask if they were interested. I emailed Maxzone, Anzo, TYC, and a few other places. Lets see what they say. Here's the email I sent them:
Dear ____________, My name is Anh-Tuan Tran, I am a member of a 6th generation Celica forum known as www.6gc.net. I am writing to you guys because I am trying to find a manufacturer that can produce projector headlamp sets for the 1994-1999 (6th generation) Celicas. The 6th generation Celica comes with 4 headlamps, and there are currently no aftermarket company that produces aftermarket headlamps for these cars. Toyota, however; does make a JDM set of projector headlamps for the low beams and diamond clear headlamps for the high beams. They are very expensive, costing over $800 for the set. They take forever to get and not always easy to come by. The main complaint with all 6th gen Celica owners is that their stock headlamps are ugly because the lamps are not clear and have ridges on the inside for “better light reflection.” All Celica owners hate the way it looks. Almost everyone who owns a 6th gen Celica have tried looking for cheaper alternatives to a better looking headlamp set that doesn’t cost them over $800. Most have fail, and those who succeeded end up spending over $800 to achieve better looking headlamps. The main reason that I am writing to you guys is to ask if you have the capability of producing headlamps for the 6th gen Celicas. The design exist already, everybody loves the way the JDM Toyota headlamps look and consider it to be one of the best looking modifications to their car. You can take this design and make your own version out of it. If you guys have the capability to produce these headlamps, let me know what all you need me to do in order to help you guys produce them. I can provide you with a lot of buyers, just let me know the minimum you need, and I’ll get that many. Also, please let me know if you guys can produce them much cheaper than the JDM headlamps and give me an estimate of how much they will cost. I am thinking a price range of $300- $450 for all 4 headlamps will be reasonable for both the seller and buyer. You can sell the low beam and high beam headlamp sets separately too for around $250 each. There are a lot of Celica owners, I can guarantee 100% that you will make profit from producing these. I can write up a formal proposal if you need or get you a list of names to prove to you guys that there are plenty of interests in having these made. The interest is worldwide, pretty much every Celica owner in the world wants them. If you can pitch this idea to whoever is in charge at _________, that would be most helpful. Thank you very much for your time. Regards, Anh-Tuan Tran PS: here are some pictures for reference. They're going to see what kind of market there is for this product, and if they like what they see....they'll probably produce them. I told them to contact me or have me contact them so I can get together a petition or something to prove to them there is a good market for it. -------------------- |

the legallity (dot approval) is the main thing keeping me away from jdm lenses and hid lights.
if the company making these could get dot approval on them then i'm sooo in. |

^^ well, that's something hard to do and if a company actually goes for it it's gonna pump up the price of those projectors so your best change still is on the JDM side
