I had them too. Just be happy you'll end up with a great row of straight teeth. What type are they... there's so many new types right now, like the 'invis' ones and such.

I never had them. Always had really straight teeth except a very small gap in front but I used to beg my dentist for them cuz I thought they were so cool cuz you could alternate colors!
Youll be happy you had them in 2 years im sure -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

After I got mine off (this was about six years ago) they affixed a permanent metal retainer to the back of my bottom and top teeth. They both recently snapped so instead of going to the othrodontist I ripped them out with a pair of pliers. I went to see a dentist a couple weeks later and he said it would probably be fine without them at this point and he cleaned up the excess glue.
I also remember my teeth hurting like hell for several days after I first got the braces on. |

I've had mine for almost 7 years (my teeth were jacked up, and I had setbacks w/ school and stuff where they couldn't do as much major stuff during the years) and I think I'm about to get them off in a few months.
Being 18 with braces is nothing, I had them since 14..I don't remember NOT having them...I'd just like them off before my 21st birthday at the end of next month, but it doesn't look like it. I, too, fix mine w/ pliers to get the wire adjusted just right. Gotta take matters into your own hands. I know everyone at the dentist office by their first names, and I've been there with braces longer than some have worked there that help work on them. They are uncomfortable as hell, but I found that chewing gum helped toughen me up a little, to where they didn't hurt for as long everytime they were tightened. The one thing that sucks the most, is be used to the insides of your lips and cheeks being cut up all.the.time. Spicy food burns just a little more with braces. -------------------- "Somebody give me a fire...so I can burn this city down." - Widespread Panic

That sucks, i got my braces off in December of 05, had them for 16 months. It sucked but now im grateful, i dont think i would have been able to get them at your age goin to college Oh yeah they also told me that if you dont take care of them properly youll have at least 2 cavities to start out with, i never flossed them, ate candy/gum alot, and still never broke any wires or brackets. All i did was brush them and they took them off and i had no cavities at all because i just brushed alot. Might have a different effect on yours though so you should probably just stick to it

I feel grateful that I never had them. Then again, I also had to wear an eye patch for 18 months once. That pretty much sucked. Especially when my vision was 20/100 to start out, and 20/50 by the time the ordeal was over.

QUOTE So just for fun, any of you got any bad/funny/or just amazingly awesome braces stories? I've had braces for 10 years... figure out which category that fits in to. A couple months ago they wanted me to wear my rubber bands 3-4-4-5 (vets should know what that it) and all was great. The next month they wanted 4-5-5-6. I wore them like that and they moved back to being bad, so I wore them how I wanted to. When I went back into the office they asked me about the last month and I told the assistant what I did and she said to me "Oh so you decided to be your own doctor?" and I said "Hell yes I did. I've been doing this before you were out of High School, now get the doctor over here." she did what I said. N00b.
