I have a 96 ST with 115000 miles on it. It has no problems with it whatsoever except it is using up oil way faster than in should. I have been keeping a real close eye on the level to make sure it doesn't get too low (adding more oil when neccesary). I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before or has any remedies. Also there is no sign of oil leaks on my garage floor. Any suggestions are welcome and thanks very much.

check the compression on each of the cylinders. you could be getting blow-by into the chambers, letting the engine burn off oil. essentially all that happens is that the clearance between the piston rings and the cylinder walls increases with wear/time, and the oil that's supposed to stay underneath, in the crankcase, blows by the rings and into the chamber, where it gets burned with the gas. see if your exhaust is coming out black at all, too...another indicator of blow-by. the easiest thing would be to pull out the spark plugs and see if they're getting any oil on them. the fix isn't going to be cheap if this is the case, but it's a start.

I have a 96 ST (145,000 miles) like you, that also burns oil. Burns about 1 quart every 2,000 miles. Keep on topping it off, the repair is going to be expensive. And remember this... every time you see your tach at 4000RPM or higher, your putting more unnecessary wear on your seals, and worsening the problem. I've been going easy on my car and keeping the oil topped off. I won't repair it until I see my MPG affected (still getting ~30mpg).
