in my previous topic i mentioned that i'm chaging my speaker setup. i already have a kenwood excelon head unit and a kenwood excelon subwoofer wink.gif

and did i mention my unique kenwood excelon x650d digital 5-channel amplifier? biggrin.gif

in the beginning i didnt want to spend much money (i'm kinda broke after spending allll the money on the celica... worth every penny!!!!! tongue.gif ) but in the end decided to get something good. and going broke kindasad.gif

right now i'm thinking about Ground Zero hydrogen 165X components. pure aluminium woofer cones, pure titanium tweeters. could i ask for more?
yes. they cost a stunning 180 euros. that's like more than 250 american $$.

for the same amount of money i could get apline type-r's, although they have silk tweeters and pulp-mesh woofers.

for a lot less money i could get alpine type-s compos and actually save some money for a radar detector.

alpine also has some cheap and easy to install "custom fit" compos that DONT have a separate crossover?? should i stay away from things like this?

or, get JBL GTO6507C (my personal fave so far) that should be real cheap (about a 100 euros) and i believe they should be really, really good (for the money).

than again, i could spend a hundred euros more than on the Ground Zero's and spend it all on the ultimate alpine's: type x compos.

rear speakers aren't as important anyways, they will be a 2-way coaxial pair to anything i get (eg alpine 17c2 for type s or r compos, jbl 6527 if i get the 6507 compos etc...).

i'm looking for sound quality and vivid, realistic sound more than anything else, since i'm well aware all these monsters will sound moooore than loud in my car.

btw, i just remembered there's a slight chance that i can get monacor speakers. although i have no idea how good they sound or how expensive they would be.

that's it. sorry people, i live in a wasteland, i cant order stuff from the net, so please dont tell me to get mb quart, infinity, polk or boston acoustics. i cant even get kenwood excelon anymore for christ's sake!!! mad.gif

thank you in advance for all your help!! celica rulllzzzz biggrin.gif

1) If u want the best sound u'd be better off making kick pannels (it makes speaker sound way better, better then any speaker in the door, well unless someone had alot of time and build a kick like pannel in the door). What I am saying is that speaker will sound better if mid's are pointed at the driver, it differs for tweeters (some sound better pointing at the driver some sound better pointed somewhere else). Another thing that makes the speaker sound better is how much big enclosure is (to get the best sound it should be about 2.5cu.in.
in size and be pretty much open (I am not saying ported) there should be a big opening, size of one sides in the kick pannel for it to sound better.
2) Speaker is not the biggest part of good sounding car, a cheap ass kicker speaker can sound better then $1000 dollar set of MBQuart speakers if the system is made and tuned the right way.
3) From my experience MBQuart is one of the top speakers, I heard Polk's speakers are really good too. For your setup cuz you dont want to spend much money you should get MBQuart Discus (component set) shouldn't cost more then $150 but will beat pretty much all of the Alpine lineup. But you will need to somehow get an active x-over to run with the speakers because the one that comes with the speakers is pretty ****ty and unadjustable. (one thing that I hate about MBQuart is really harsh tweeters (but that can be all changed with some x-over tuning and some work on PEQ)

PS: As of right now I have MBQuart Premium set and its pretty good sounding, this week I am going to start my kick pannel setup. Last week my friend made kick panels for his Camry and put Alpine Type-S speakers in em, and I tell you what, it sound way better then my $500 speakers. So like I said if u want the best sound, make some kick's smile.gif

thanks for the info, kick panels are out of question this moment, but that doesnt mean i dont have them in my plans for the future. and like i said, i'll quote myself again: please dont tell me to buy stuff i CANT (like mb quart etc). i've listed the options i have for now, and would like to know which of the above listed would do the best job. once i have a lot of spare time on my hands and a good carpenter who wont rip me off i'll probabaly make kick panels anyways. or if you're already making those kick panels, make a whole bunch of them, i'm sure there are many people here who'd buy them at a proper price...
