man i dont know what to do. i borrowed my roommates bike and it got stolen at my buddys house. i even locked it up but they just cut the wire with a thick wire cutter and got 2 bikes. worst part is bike wasnt registered and the police said they cant do anything if it isnt registered. the bike was a giant rincon and cost 350 my roomate said. we dont have renters insurance so he is pretty much sol for the bike. but i dont see how i can be blamed for the whole incident, i mean i locked it up and everything but it was in the backally way but there are tons of cars around and stuff too. and they just had strong bike cutting equipment. im not got gonna pay 350 for a new bike for him. what do you guys think i can get for around 160 these days that is a normal mountain bike. and do u think that i owe him another bike even though he locks his bike up everynight outside in our front lawn. that could have just as easlily been cut and stolen.

I had my bike stolen from school! locked up and everything... I even took the front clip that holds the tire/rim to the fork.. so who ever stole probably flew off the bike on hard braking..

make a deal with your friend, maybe he'll let you get him a cheaper bike

i'd say no deal, if you lost it, you pay for it. And by not taking responsability for something, thats a really crappy friend. And regardless of how it was stolen, the fact still remains, it was in your possesion when it was taken, so in my eyes, you owe him the entire cost of the bike.
