Belts suck ass... cuase of the stupid engine mount haha. i hate it soo much... But really if you work consistantly and efficiently, you could get done within 2 hours if not less.

just put a jack under your engine to lift it up so the mount can be removed, and well other than that its just a matter of tight bolts, and reaching into hard to reach spots. then the rest is gravy if i remember correctly.

wow....i need to jack up the motor???......

When I changed mine, I just disconnected the negative battery cable, jacked and blocked the car and slid under and removed the splash guard on the passenger side of the engine and loosened the adjustment points to and removed the old and installed my power steering and alternator belts.
The manual has specs on belt tightness. I didn't use a gauge. I pressed the belt to check the deflection with my index finger. One half an inch for the long belt and one quarter inch for the short one. I didn't exactly use the specifications. rolleyes.gif

ADJUSTMENTS
NOTE: New belt refers to a belt which has been used 5 minutes or
less on a running engine. Used belt refers to a belt which
has been used more than 5 minutes on a running engine. After
installing new belt(s), run engine for at least 5 minutes
and recheck tension.

where exactly is the adjsutment points and the tensioner????...

The adjustment points are were the alternator or power steering pump is mounted to the engine. The bolts hold the alternator or power steering pump in postion. When the bolts are loosened the tension can be adjusted and/or the belt can be replaced. For example the alternator has three bolts. The pivot bolt, the locking bolt, and the adjusting bolt.

Both belts run from one crankshaft pulley. I recommend replacing both belts at the same time since the inner belt requires that the outer belt has be removed first.

The tensioner is a tool to check belt tension. It is not required to use a tensioner. You can check to see how much the belt can be "bent" by pressing with your thumb and holding a straight edge along from the two pulley points.

Most manuals have pictures to illustrate this process. Haynes has a Celica manual and it's less than 20 dollars and can really save a lot of time. Most autoparts suppliers carry them. It's not difficult to follow most of the procedures when they include illustrations as well.

I replaced both of my belts in March and I can relax knowing that my belts will probably be fine for several more years.

changed it today...wow it wasnt all that bad....after a few bloody knuckles and fingers...its installed......didnt even notice it was that easy to install the belts...ive loosend three bolts from the alt (as described^^^^)... 2 bolts from the power steering..and removed the belts...and install teh new ones.....a lil tricky on the power steering because i need to somehow "push" the brackets out so the tension could be tight on the PS....other than that everything else is jus re-installment.....

now, i got the ps, alt belts installed....HOW BOUT THE TIMING BELT???? anyone kno how to install?...

EDIT: OH, and i didnt have to jack up the motor...but if i was to change the timing belt, would i need to???
