Ok, I have a 91 Alltrac, and i want to do an engine swap to it cuase its not running and it seems like it would just be cheaper to drop another engine in. However, all i can find are JDM engines for sale. I live in California, so i can't get a JDM engine legalized here since it wont pass the visual testing due to no EGR. But is it possible to take the head and intake manifold off of a USDM 3sgte and attach it to a JDM block, and have everything work the same? Cuase i just cannot find a USDM engine anywhere. Well actually, i just bought another one, but it doesn work. . So now i have Two 3sgte's that dont work. Bleh on my parade.

yes, you can bolt a usdm head on a jdm block, or vice versa.
but, isnt the law in CA that the engine has to be from the same year or newer as your car? -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

well, his alltrack is a 91, so i dont think that would be a problem, since it was the first of the 2nd gen 3s's.

Would you be interested in maybe selling a broken 3sgte? Long way to ship to me though. You should be able to just switch valve covers and intake manifolds or maybe just throttle bodies for the USDM to JDM motors. That's were the EGR valve usually is. You don't have to hook it up. Just put it there and plug it to make it look like it's doing something.

Well the valve covers are identicle, and the EGR bolts up to the intake Manifold and the head. The hoses i didnt really think about yet, but they should work as well. Pretty much as long as it looks like it works. Hmm... i would have 2 non running 3sgte's and no room to put them... how much would you pay? I would include the long block, the turbo manifold with CT26 turbo, waste gate, and DP. Intake Manifold with throttle body and TVIS, alternator, power steering pump, TMIC...um it came with a few more random parts, but all i really wanted was the head haha. So all i need now is a JDM engine with ECU and Wiring harness. Ok but i was wondering one thing. The ECU plugs for a 90-91 alltrac differ from the ECU plugs on a 92-93. But is everything else the same? Cuase the guy that sold me this engine said that it came out of an MR2 and he doesnt know what year it is, but from what i can tell, its a 2nd gen USDM alltrac engine. The intercooler pipe on the throttle body was rubber, and if im correct, its a metal peice on the MR2. um the pipe that comes off the valve cover is straight, and i think that it is bent on MR2 3sgte's. And it came with a TMIC. soo... im just guessing it's from an Alltrac, even though it has MR2 written on all the parts in whiteout. I also know that the Downpipes for MR2s are different from an alltracs.

The engine cannot be older than the car. So there's really no way that i can "legaly" swap the engine out on my 96 even if it had EGR. Well i would have to get the 3rd gen 3sgte or newer, but thats expsensive and didnt come with EGR...hmm... would a 2nd gen head fit on a 3rd gen.... hm... -------------------- |
