This forum is so boring to visit. I really dislike the way the moderators run things here. Lately, things have been so lock-happy it's not even funny. Sometimes the topics can be decent yet Manny or Jeff will swoop in and lock things. It's getting ridiculous. I guess that's the strict rules this place has though. I just think off-topic should be a bit more relaxed. No porn or racism obviously.

Why don't you mods get a forum and make posts so you can lock them? Maybe that'll satisfy that urge.

I'm just tired of the baby-ishness of 6GC.

I think its a good think that the mods have been locking a lot of the topics. So many of them are just getting way off topic and could go on forever if they weren't locked. Most end up in a dispute of who said what.

The one thing I really like about this forum is that everything is on topic and is useful information. I personally don't come to this forum to look for excitement. I look for information on my car and thats it. I suppose the off topic threads could be let go and not closed, but I never really check there so not sure what reason some that have been closed are for.

Just wanted to say that I like this forum being here for staying on topic and everyone helping each other, no bickering or getting off topic.

When any of us lock a topic, its for a good reason. If a topic heads off course, we'll delete the unnecessary posts and let the thread continue. If the topic has nothing to offer this community(mindless ranting and bickering between members), then we'll close it. Unfortunately we have members that fail to follow rules, so we have to step in. There will always be a gray area, but we try our best.

If you post about religion, politics, or adult material they will They will usually be locked. Those threads end up in either a flame war, who's better than who, or other things we do not need on a automotive forum. If it were up to me I would drop Off Topic completely.

You may think we are doing a bad job because you only see what we lock. If you could see the type of stuff we delete, then this might sway your opinion about how we handle things.

We do not and will not tolerate bashing of members, cars, or other cars. Thats why this was locked.

In your PM to me you understood why it was locked. You also did not ask me to explain. I didnt see a need to further explain why, you also shared your suggestions for the future. Maybe Coomer can reconsider that rule. For now I have to use what has been given to me. If you would like me to further explain why I move, delete, or close a topic. You can ask me via PM.

Hmmm... I don't remember. I've slept since then. LOL. Would you mind explaining it for me? I didn't see anything in the rules about torrents and I've seen plenty of other topics before and there is still one active now. Any understanding I had was about the legality of the torrents and I compared it to other tools that could be used for not so legal things. It wasn't meant to be taken as a literal suggestion just a comparison for judgement.

ambiko, if youve got a problem with the moderation of the site, you can PM coomer about it, he's the administrator, and he sets the rules, we make it happen.
there are pleanty of sites out there, that have much more lax rules then ours...OTUG is just one that comes to mind...
your more than welcome to post whatever you'd like there.

This is only my second day here and I have to say that as a forum about Celicas, I have found this site to be extremely helpful...to the point where I feel very confident about buying a Celica in the next few days and comfortable with the thought of sharing pictures of me and my car in the forum soon. I visited the off-topic forum for a short time, and while it seemed nice, a lot of it seemed like conversations that could be had with instant messenger. It is nice to get to know people besides through their cars, I definitely agree, but if arguments are breaking out where they wouldn't have before, then the mods are probably right in locking off topics.

Positive vibes, guys, positive vibes. This is one of the kindest online communities I've visited recently, all connected through the love of the 6gc, don't let "off-topics" tear it down.

I'm completely behind my moderators and we feel that locking topics and keeping the site family-friendly is a good thing. There are plenty of other sites with more relaxed rules, and plenty of sites with much stricter rules. We've chosen our rules carefully and we feel that they're appropriate for the site.

There are plenty of other sites with more relaxed rules, and plenty of sites with much stricter rules. We've chosen our rules carefully and we feel that they're appropriate for the site.

what about all of the hypocrisy, and moderators bashing cars, and participating in illegal activities(everyone knows miguel is only 19, and knows that since it was at Manny's house, he is responsible), and threatening people physically? is that appropriate?

there really is favoritism going on around here. i'm not any part of it, but i'm pointing it out, being a 3rd party person.

Also, as far as PMing everyone about things. sometimes things need to be said out in the open. when someone calls out a moderator on something they are doing wrong, the mods edit it, or delete it, and cover their tracks. sure, they go to the "deleted topics/posts" forum, but we all know not every mod, or coomer, reads every single post in there. it's go for people to know some things.

sure, the site is still helpful to the new people, but once you get past that, it's still the same. and it even ripples into other threads and topics. people in the cliques reply to their own questions, and if you aren't, you get generalized answers. a lot of the long-time members are leaving the site, because it truely has taken a turn for the worse.

Coomer, i'm sorry, but if you don't see this, and you think the way certain people are acting, and representing the site is justified, you are ignorant.

Examples:
1a: "bashing"
Thread closed for 'bashing'.
1b: "bashing"
Manny 'bashing' Burneed's hoodscoop. Why is it ok for him?

2a: Now, this thread is the topic of a lot of "controversy", so let me add a 3rd party opinion:
miguel is drunk and living in my bathroom!
Now, let's start with the obvious. Manny posted it. taking pictures. everyone was having fun. it's obvious. everyone KNOWS how old miguel is. the fact that he is drinking is beside the point. the point is, Manny published this activitiy taking place in his home, under his own name, and being of sound mind. Technically speaking, legal course could be taken, and this could be used as evidence. manny and his wife would have been held responsible. THAT is the point of debate which Dustin(brown) brought up. Dustin jumps in, in order to defend manny (in the 'clique' in question), but offers no real answer. he said he showed his ID, and it said he was 21. look in his profile, look on myspace, look in chats. he is 19. all dustin offers is thta he just says to quit crying.

onward we move. dan points out the facts of the matter, and sites the rules that are being broken. dustin says to quit crying again. posting a picture. how mature, and about as effective as the "chewbacca defense".

onward again, jeff locks the topic. says the fun is over.

oh wait, manny UNLOCKS the thread, threatens dan, then tells Dustin(brown) to PM. Again, no defense, just says, "hey, don't point it out to the public".

later i may find other examples, but i think those are pretty solid enough for the time being, just to get the point across.

in conclusion: there may be some underlying things, which have caused personal vendettas, but the truth of the matter is, factions are being created, and power is being abused. i have nothing against anyone personally, but that above pretty much proves what people are saying. i realize the rules are the rules, and they are different at different sites, but, the fact remains, that the rules were broken by people of "power", and nothing is done about it.

there's my take. not that it matters, and guess what, i don't care if anything is done or not. i'm just VERY bored at work right now, and have nothing else better to do. smile.gif. i come here to look at OT every now and then, and Buying/Selling. if you can, feel free to poke holes in my argument, or just delete it and lock this thread. if that's what is done, then it will be apparent what is really the truth.

coomer, i believe a public warning to your moderators would be a nice action, and prove that hey, the rules do apply to them too. otherwise, it'll just be obvious that you are all ignorant and blinded by your "l33t intr4n3t p0w3r".

-John-

edit: i see manny has a warning in his sig, which is not an actual warning. and it's quite playful at most. and also, a formal PUBLIC warning from COOMER, is what i mean. so don't bother pointing that out.

i'm 24, well-educated, well-spoken, and have a nice career. i'm also bored at work. and if you'll read, i don't really care if anything happens or not. i'm just pointing it out, with hard evidence, so that people will open their eyes and stop bickering back and forth with empty efforts. also, i've been a member here for YEARS. so, that portion of my life isn't so insignificant. and when friends i have established on here are leaving left and right, and people are constantly bickering, i offer my opinion.

when you get a little older, you will be surprised at how your insignificant reply on such a matter really is quite trivial, and instead, you could have offered an educated response to the matter at hand, instead of trying to make some low-brow remark pointing out my assumed immaturity.

agreed, come on its just an internet car forum, but i do agree with what he says on some points. overall though, i think the mods do a good, honest job at keeping these forums on track. there are definitly cliques, but they always form so whos surprised or cares for that matter?

Thanks for the post John. The warning Manny has is real and its from me. Manny knows he was in the wrong for starting that thread. Rules were broken, so I stepped in and closed the thread. I though about the proper action, so I gave him a warning. Its real and it still stands right now. This is the only way I could give him a valid warning at this time.

I have talked with Manny about his other posts regarding bashing. You can talk with him about why it was handled that way. Other then that, we do not bash cars or other members on this site.
