I am about to buy my 3sgte, but I am not sure what to do for an exhaust. Is is possible to just go to a muffler shop and have them bend some pipes and fit it up or is it better to buy a cat-back exhaust? All of the cat's are like $500! Wouldn't it be cheaper to go to a muffler shop?

what i did was buy 3 180 degree 3" mandrel bends from jcwhitney and take them to the shop along with a downpipe flange and have them cut and weld it.

it cost polly 600 bucks total in cluding labor and all parts

or you can have dg_performance make you won, i think his are in the 400 range withotu shipping?

The swap I just finished went into a shop that has a tig welder for a full mandrel-bent, stainless, tig-welded 3" exhaust with a magnaflow resonator and muffler. It's absolutely beautiful, and sounds perfect. But that's a very expensive job.

Jerry, IIRC, my full 3" mandrel bent SS exhaust including muffler and resonator was about $650 and it is very impressive. Here is a thread with my pics:

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

$650 sounds like a decent price for that masterpiece smile.gif I just need to find a shop around here that has mandrel bends and get a quote...

I don't mind telling. The exhaust cost $1065 but is a work of art. The entire thing was pieced together via mandrel bends and straight pieces with a flex pipe up front, magnaflow resonator and muffler, and a gorgeous tip. All Stainless Steel of course. I'll be posting pics later tonight hopefully in the completed swap thread.

look you know i love you and your car but all of the swappers who have 3" exhaust have mandrel bends, a flex pipe, and most even have magnaflow mufflers.. i think you are upselling your exhaust too much wink.gif

i paid 600 for mine and its perfect.. except i wanted straight pipe coming out the back (no gaudy chrome tip, just not my style) but he put a downturn on it, so im gonna take it back and make him fix it since i said i wanted it to exit straight smile.gif

the craftsmenship is very high quality, the guy i had do it won numerous awards for his exhaust setups from MIR dragsters.

also one thing id like to point out is that my exhaust is street legal, i have a high flow cat wink.gif

Ah.....you got me with the street legal part. But hey, the car had 130K miles, is registered in a non-emissions part of PA, so my stock exhaust was going and the cat was bad, so I chose not to replace......at least I think that's how the story would go if asked by a "in the know" official.

Upselling......maybe. biggrin.gif I'm just THAT impressed with the exhaust. I was honestly expecting it to sound gawdy and raspy, and when it was started the first time I had to grab a towel, and another for my wife cause she liked it too. biggrin.gif

Being a domestic guy I would say is definitely why I was sho suprised at how it sounded. As for the jet engine sound.......

I'm totally enamored with it. It's a gigantic amusement to me right now, whenever I'm on the highway I can keep from goosing the gas and thinking to myself "man, that's just cool sounding."

Same here, even when the radio is on I would still have it on low volume just to hear the engine reving and the turbo spooling smile.gif
