Ok so i guess i need to start by saying what my goals are...

I have no set HP number i plan to reach but i want it to be up there, atleast 350 when i'm done. My car will have almost 3 years of down time/ driven very rarely between june of 2007 and sept 2010. During which i will be at the US Coas Guard Academy, learning .. but making a weekly paycheck with no studnet loans etc. I have one plan for that money and it is my car.

I am just wrapping up my swap (3sgte) and am toying with the idea of buying a SAFC II

but instead of getting into buying piggyback's i think the idea of buying a full EMS sounds more practical in the long run.

I like the plug and play AEM EMS that is offered, is that my best option? or should i really just get the piggy back and go from there?

my near future plans are:
FMIC
3" exhaust
Down Pipe $ Headers

My future plans are a better turbo, forged internals, AWD, etc. yes thats right AWD i'm determined biggrin.gif

What are your thoughts?

feel free to critize my ideas, i'm just trying to plan out which roads i need to take so i can purchase accordingly.

DO NOT BUY AN SAFC. because of the way our fuel and timing controls are combined in the 3s ecu, and safc is not recmended by most 3s owners

those will give you great gains over what you have now. you dont need any type of ems or piggy back for those mods.

if you are really going to rebuild the block, upgrade the turbo, etc... then just wait to buy an ems then. at that point it will pretty much be a must have item for your setup.

I guess my goal is to not buy anything that i will need to upgrade later.. like putting in a fuel pump that will need to be replaced with a bigger better one later on.

To me its like a big puzzle and i want to get all the right peices so eventually it all fits together..

^if that makes anysense..

i think the same way jcbass.. i bought rims without tires and i currently cannot afford the tires i want (escta asx's) so i am holding off on buying cheapo tires, because theres no point.

the easiest EMS for our car in my opinion is the apexi power fc for the 3rd gen 3sgte, with minor changes it will be plug and play with our stock wiring harness as far as ive read.. someone correct me if i am wrong on this.

anyone who buys afc for a toyota should be shot biggrin.gif

EMS is the way to go to tune your car with the mods you have posted honestly the stock computer will handle them fine.

you would have to rewire a lot of stuff to make something thats designed to work with a 3rd gen motor work with a 2nd gen. that ecu is wired up to work with a map sensor, intake sensor... etc... and i think it has some preprogramed fuel maps for the 550cc injectors and stuff.. .so it wouldnt work right out of the box

anything thats made to be plug and play with an alltrac, should be plug and play. i think nemesis has one, as well as aem, but i really havent looked into it too much.

Not 'hard" repinning the harness and adding sensors.
It has been done. :-)

There are More and More solutions.
The MR2 board is Way ahead of Us Celica guys. But we can take advantage of their
progress.

> i think nemesis has one, as well as aem, but i really havent looked into it too much.

Start here. Ricky B. is a Great guy. :-)
http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/primers.htm
http://www.mrcontrols.com/products/products.htm

AEM has a good reputation as well with a lot of support.

IMHO, a good ems should be 1st. It will not outgrow your mods.

You learn how to make the Most out of what you have and what you add.
If you Have to pay someone it gets Expensive Fast to tune.

Before you decide; Check out www.efi101.com.
Plenty of info. Their intro class is well worth it.
The advanced is geared More toward a shop.
But really helpful If you want to jump into tuning.

Regards;

just want to throw out that i love my AEM EMS

i have worked with megasquirt, FAST, DFI, all sorts of piggy backs, SDS, and several reflashing tools/software.

the AEM EMS is one of the best that i have dealt with.

the aem has the best software on the markiet for the price, im running the nemesis on my car at the moment and love it. Dont ask a piggyback to do a ems's job. RickyB's posts are right, hes brilliant, as is noshoes.

X2
for the 2nd gen 3s, IMO the AEM or the nemisis is the way to go.
with brian "noshoes" moore, rickyb or john reed tweeking it. wink.gif
