Are there any differences between the quickshifter kits from the US and Japan
ie. could I buy a quickshifter kit from the US and install it in my RHD ST204 without any problems?? |

I don't think you can.
Easiest way to tell is this. When i installed mine, there were 2 cables i had to disconnect from the original setup. One was in the middle connected to the shifter bar. The second was on the left side of the housing. Just pop off your shifter boot and take a quick look. If the cable on the side is on the right side then your screwed and need to purchase a Jap TRD shifter set. If it's on the left then your good as gold! Trust me when i say that it matters which side the cable is on. The housing can only be put in 1 way so don't think that turning it around will fix your problem. |

*runs out to rip bits out my celi*
One in the center and one to the left ![]() just to clarify you were talking about the circled cables in this pic werent you? It looks exactly the same as that pic except the gear stick is bent to the left not the right (is that going to be a problem?) oh and the hand brake is on the other side of the console ofcourse ![]() |

I don't think the bend will be a problem - I don't think the quickshifter has a bend in it at all, at least I know for sure that the TWM one doesn't.
looking good so far argon ![]() |

The TWM shifter for the 6th Gens has a bend to the right. This totally screwed me up because it was very close to hitting my e-brake everytime I shifted to 5th and reverse. So I had to send it back and get another shifter sent out to me. So either get a shifter that bends to the left or is straight. |

Hey Argon, I told you in the other thread but its up to you, the quickshifter bends to the left towards the driver, if the cables match up like you said i guess it will work but I really don't think you would want it to angle away from you. I think you would kinda lose some of the benefits of the shifter if it angles away from you, it makes the gears seem nearer to me, almost like reverse is where third used to be. Your just gunna shoot yourself in the foot using a left hand drive shifter setup.

I realise this and as much as I would like to get a quickshifter for a RHD celica price is still an issue.
The only place that Kamix and I know of in AU that even order TRD parts quoted me $771.45AUD where as I can get one online from the US for $164.40USD = $244.60AUD as you can see the US quickshifter is waay cheaper and I am not prepared to pay over $800 for a quickshifter, delivered, when I know I can get one for les than half somewhere else. If I could get a RHD quickshifter through the US then that would be the perfect solution I guess. Does anyone know where I can get a RHD TRD Quickshifter kit in the US? Other than that there really is no other option than to get a US quickshifter and use it like it is. Would I be able to get someone to cut the stick and weld it back together so it bends the other way?? Milds3vn, do you have issues with the quickshifter hitting the hand brake at all? |

Hey erm. Maybe this is a different shifter? SiKBOY but are you sure? check this pic out.
![]() Also I noticed in your profile you settled for a TWM 7g shifter. How was the fit for it, and where did you get it from/how much?
I think this is a real option. I'm pretty sure that those shifters are steel. (I'm going to be careful about saying I know for sure ![]() Also I have heard stories that the TWM is actually a better smoother shift than the TRD, can anyone comment on this? I saw a TRD quickshifter for the ST205 on ebay like a couple days ago. Check it out, it might still be there.
And about the pic, yes that is exactly how my USA TRD Quickshift looks! |

^^ Really? So the TWM is exactly the same as the TRD?
I think that somewhere there is some misinformation in this thread ![]() This post has been edited by kamixZR: Jun 19, 2003 - 3:37 AM |

I think neipas was replying to my post. ![]() Neipas: do you think that it might be possible to cut the TRD stick and weld it back together if it causes problems? This post has been edited by The_Argon: Jun 19, 2003 - 5:30 AM |

Ok guys. I got it. Kamix, I originally asked for the 94-99 short shifter and I had problems with it bending to the right with it interefering with the handbrake. Now if I had a left-hand drive car it wouldnt be a problem. I talked to Kevin Thaulbalt (not too sure about the spelling of the last name) who owns TWM about this problem and he said that he would send me out a straight shifter from the 2000-2001 Celica and that would fix all my problems and it did... The shifter is straight and feels really good and it doesnt interefer with the handbrake. Saying that though. I do have a column shape shifter. Have a look at my profile and you can see that it is thinner than the stock shift knob. I just went and checked the clearance. If you have the stock shifter knob, I think it will be a problem and you will probably be hitting the handbrake when your hand is wrapped around the knob with the 2000-2001 TWM shifter when shifting to 5th and Reverse. I didnt test the stock shift knob with the 94-99 TWM shifter but im guessing that you might not even be able to get it into 5th or reverse. I had one other problem as well. When disassembling the shifter for installation, you have to pop off 2 white caps that are on the original shifter. These 2 white caps are connected to the shifter linkages. Now after I got the 2000-2001 shifter I found out that the 2 white caps from my original shifter didnt fit the new TWM shifter. Kevin had to send me out 2 white caps that would fit the 2000-2001 shifter. About the difference with the TRD and the TWM shifter is that you get the whole shifter assembly with TRD while with the TWM shifter you only get the shifter with a few washers clips as in the picture. I hope this helps you guys as I wouldnt want you guys to go through what I had to go through with sending shifters back and forth and extra parts etc. But I am VERY happy with the TWM shifter. I cannot compare it with the TRD shifter because I havent tried it but for the money the TWM shifter is great and Kevin at TWM was very helpful and returned my emails and phone calls almost immediately. |

It doesn't hit the e-brke but it comes close, I'm blown away by the price for that shifter in AUS. How could it possibly be that much, is that american or your money. Cant you find a place in Europe to order a LHD shifter from? I'll have to check my shifter but you might be able to do a little custom work and fix the bend to your side.

Thanks for the excellent post SiKBOY.. very helpful.
$771.45 AUD = $518.120 USD I know, its a rip off! Shows you the lack of 6g accessories in Australia. Then again, our economy is a bit different, 6g's are worth $11800 - $15000 USD in Australia. From what I've heard you guys pay around $8-10 g's for a GT over there? Btw SiKBOY - Can you give us the contact details for TWM? Where did you get it from? |

Hm, I dont know exactly where you guys are situated but way back I called up Penrith Toyota about the TRD shifter and I think they said that it was around $400 AUD and that it will take about a month to come from Japan. Don"t quote me on that though. I ordered my TWM shifter directly from TWM. It was before they had any dealers but now it seems that they have a few dealers. Last I saw Modacar.com sells them and they were a lot cheaper than buying from TWM. Its bizzare because you would think that you would get it cheaper from the manufacturer. TWMperformance.com is where you can find all your info on installation and pictures etc. I paid about 105-115 USD for my shifter. I can't quite remember because it was a while ago before they knocked the prices up but even now for the more expensive price, I would still pay for it instead of getting the TRD shifter. Im guessing that it would feel very similar except you would be paying a lot more for the TRD shifter. The white caps drama that I had might cause some troubles for you guys if you are going for the TWM shifter. The caps that Kevin sent me to fit for the 2000-2001 shifter were second hand. I was lucky he had some lying around. He normally doesnt supply them so you might have to go searching for some. He would know from what car and year the white caps will fit what TWM shifter. Send him an email if you guys are interested. |
