First of all this forum rocks this little mod is specially for 6gc members since and you guys has always been a big help...anyway straight to the point..Things you will need:
1.screwdrivers, one for the screws, a small one for making the hole 2.masking tape, duct tape..any stickytape 3.something to strip the wire, i used a knife 4.round drillbit 5.ruler 6.a flat drillbit 7.soldering iron 8.some wires 9.some LEDs http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0068.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0033.jpg There are two ways to connect the LEDs together, one inseries and the other is parallel. In parallel the Voltage and Current remain the same in all LEDs whether in series they get devided and hence the LEDs will be dimmer. Okay you dont need to have everything exactly like me, just similar will do. First off take off the side panel (i dont know if this is called a side panel) by taking off the screws (2 to be exact) then its a matter of pulling the side panel off, it doesnt have to come right off,i had mine still partly attaching to the chasis, Im lazy. I used thee 194 LED on each side, these are straight firing type, mark where you want ur LEDs to be and make small holes using the small screwdriver. Then use the flat head screwdriver twist it around to make the hole bigger, dont use a power drill here, the pannels are plastic they're not that hard, you want these holes to be small, smaller than the LEDs. Next i used the round drillbit to enlarge the holes and test fit the LEDs if they kinda fit with some applied force then STOP. You're done. DONOT make the holes as big as the LEDs. http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0034.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0037.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0038.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0041.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0035.jpg Wiring time. Get 2 wires and connect them to one of the LED as shown. You must choose two different colour wires because you will need to connect the same wire to the same connector of the LED for all LEDs because LEDs have polarity, now you can choose to solder the wires to the LED and not worry them getting lose or you can hook them to the LEDs, and bend the LEDs connectors in such way that the wires wont get lose. I soldered mine. Next insert the wires into the highest hole and pull them out from the second hole (see picture) strip the wires and hook them up with the second LEDs...continue till all the LEDs are connected. http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0045.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0056.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0052.jpg This part is to hook the lights with the door lights, there are two ways to do this. One ways is to connect them to the red/white wire at the driver side kick (DSK) panel or you can connect them to the light switch connector since you already pulled out the side panel you can see the door switch with the same red/white wire, either way is fine. I connect mine to the DSK panel since i need to hook them up with the battery as well. The negative Wire goes to the red/white wire The positive goes to the blue/yellow wire http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0064.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0065.jpg Once you hook them up cover them with masking tape put everything back and enjoy the new...side door lights. Hope you guys understand what i wrote. http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0061.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0058.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0071.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0076.jpg http://home.exetel.com.au/lubu/RIMG0077.jpg Things to consider before starting: The head of the LEDs cannot be longer than 6mm if they are longer you cannot close the door. Make sure the holes are smaller than the LEDs, you can use superglue to glue the LEDs into place but i dont think its necessary, superglue is a pain in the *ss to use, not to mention spilling it on ur hand or ur belove ceci car Remember to wire the same wire to the same connector of the LEDs Watch out for the soldering iron, its damn HOTT~~~ -------------------- 98% completion --- aaRon |

QUOTE(joehernandez @ May 27, 2007 - 8:09 AM) cool mod, i might do it, but the small bulbs might be kind of expensive or not? not really the normal straight firing type...costs you about ~30+ for 10 and the refractor is abit more exprensive. -------------------- 98% completion --- aaRon |
