So the other day my domelight decides to burn out. So I went to 3 different auto stores to get a new one, and they don't sell them. It's not even in there books for a Celica. I'm assuming it's one of those stupid dealer only items, but then I got to thinking that if I need a new light, I want a blue one to go with the rest of the blue theme. Any ideas where to get a blue dome light?

just your bulb burned out?

you should be able to match up a 10w bulb by the size of the plug and the location of the studs.

you can buy little rubber "socks" that cover a white bulb, i know they make red, green, and i assume they make blue too. the lens for the domelight is plastic-welded in place, so unless you want to superglue it (which will turn the plastic white), i'd go the bulb cover route.

my celica uses a single Ba9s bulb

you can get all sorts of colors here
http://superlumination.com/otherleds.htm

for me these weren't quite bright enough (they provided some light but too much was wasted shining back up into the roof).

i made my own lightbulb with a ba9s base that i canibalized off a led fabrication i bought, 3 white leds, a 68ohm resistor, and a piece of perf board. with that all the leds point down and it lights up my cabin pretty well. the first one i made used really powerful leds and lit up too well.

Those LED's will fit right in correct? I'm thinking buot trying the blue one. How bright was it? Compared to the stock one?

well, if you get a Ba9s LED; what you're getting is a Ba9s base pre-wired with resistors and LEDs.

so those will fit with no problem. if you want something just for cool factor, they might be bright enough, might even be able to read by them. only way to find out for sure is to try them. but what you should do first is open the dome light, and see what direction the led will face. incandescent bulbs will cast light pretty evenly in all directions. leds will shine light in a more focused pattern directly outward (sorta more like a spot-light). that's why you can get the 5-led matrix bulbs which have several leds each going a different direction so they can mimic the wide pattern of the incandescent bulb.

what i did, was to make my own led cluster, all 3 of them facing downward. so it produced more light than the 5-led-matrix where only one of the leds was pointing the ideal direction (down).

i'd say give one of them a shot, you can always use the bulb base to wire up something high-powered from places like these

I'm gonna try the Matrix and see if that's bright enough for me. I'll let you know what I think when I get it in the mail.

Well I got my LED on Friday and put it in. It looks nice smile.gif It could be brighter, but it's not all that bad for being blue. Anyways it matches my door lights so thats all that matters lol

I had a couple ba9 bulbs in mine too, but didnt like them. While they are blue and match the doors, i got a couple hyper white bulbs so the dome light could still be functional. I use that light too much to have it be a faint blue.

Yes I will take some pics tonight before I go to work and post them in the morning. I'd do it now, but you wouldn't be able to see anything, sunshine kinda has that effect wink.gif
