i plan on dropping a 3s-gte into my 94 gt auto with a manual transmission, however i plan on doing the transmission swap ahead of time and still have the st204 motor in it. also i do not want to do the all wheel drive conversion. i heard that it is possible to use the front wheel drive transmission form a 3s-gt non-turbo, which would be able to handle the added torque, and bolt right up to both the st204 and the st205. please correct me if i am wrong. i need help finding the right parts and possibly some instruction. thanks

You can also use the manual tranny from the 5s-fe motor. I think your best bet would be the manual tranny from the V6 Camry, if you can find it.

You can indeed use the tranny from a 3sge motor. An s56 or e54 if I'm not mistaken. It'll bolt up fine to both the 5sfe motor and the 3sgte. It's stronger than the 5sfe tranny, but you're best bet for high horsepower numbers would be in an MR2 or V6 camry tranny.

I also have a question kinda relating to this, if he changes his tranny to something other than stock would he have to change his pressure plate or clutch disc or does he only have to do that when he puts in a new engine? I also was thinking of getting a new tranny not sure what to go with, but i think mine might be dying:(

ok i thought about it a bit more and i think that the tranny out of the v6 camery would be a bad idea, reason being that it is a v6 transmission and that to me would cause all kinds of proplems that would require lots of custom work. so i reject my previous post, and now interested in the mr2 option. please get back to me asap on the possable complications involed in this swap, and places to get every thing that i would need to do the swap

The V6 tranny is the best one to get. It's basically the same as the MR2 tranny, but w/o having to convert it from RWD. There's a great post in celi.net about what to do to get the MR2 tranny to work right. You have to change shift forks, actuators, all this crap. With the V6 camry, it's just a straight drop in. FWD and everything. Only prob is, they're rare as all get out.

Go to celica.net and go to the 6th gen board, they have a section about swappers and their comments on what they like/dislike. Also I talked to a guy at Jarco and he told me that the 3sge tranny would be your best bet in his opinion with a 3sgte swap, just extremely rare to find. They even have trouble locating them. So...if you are patient you could get one. But I would suggest to read the http://www.celica.net section, it will help.

ok....... crossroads, i need to know flat out what is the easiest and the best of the two to swap in, the 3s-gt transmission, or the v6 camery. i am getting the front clip form a gt-4 as soon as they are back in stock, selling the awd transmission out of it and useing the money to buy one of the two fwd trannys (3sgt, or v6cam). i need sure fire information now because of time restrants.
