Today got my second ticket for speeding since i got my car (this time only for 10!!! i repeat, 10 mph over the limit unlike the last one which was 23 over) so now I'm looking into getting a radar detector but dont know which one to get. Anyone have one that they really like and suggest? I know there's some that u can get which block some radar stuff but i dont think those are legal here in CA...

i got this one $30 "fox" brand radar detector off of the internet. it picks up x, k ,ka (i think those are the right letters, lol) , and laser. It beeps when it detects something and beeps faster when ur getting closer. theres also leds on there that correspond to the different radars. i got it after i got my 2nd speeding ticket, which was last year, and i havent gotten one since. the only problem is that there are alot of false alarms, but i seem to be use to it. a major plus is that its battery is solar charged (theres a solar cell right on top) and i dont need to plug it in to anything. as for those $500 radar scramblers.....yea they're illegal here in so cal. but so were just regular radar detectors a while ago, so i wouldn't worry bout it. just dont make it too obvious and have it sitting right above your dash when the cop pulls u over, lol.

yeah i've been in the market for a radar dectector as well...my last and first ticket wasn't bad at all...i was going 85 in a 55. (i would have hit 100 if that f*in cop hadn't got me)..but i only had to go to driving school. turns out the judge knows my parents... But sorry to hear about your tickets blur.
I think i'm going to get the scrambler on tho...i think it's illegal here in Alabama as well...but it's only illegal if ya get cought |

whether it be 10 miles over or 50 miles over, its still over the speedlimit. which means u broke the law. now im not saying i dont, cuz i drive an average of 10-15 over, but if i got pulled over, i wouldnt bitch and complain.
and in another note, for you, a radar detector is just a false sense of security. cops turn on and off their scanners all the time. -alex |

hey forkee where'd u get that "fox" brand detector?? sounds like a hella good deal for 30 bucks and u dont have to deal with plugging it in.
boibleu22- ya everybody goes over the speedlimit, even u. I'm not bitching nor complaining, i'm just wondering if there's somethin out there which can help me avoid getting a ticket the next time. false sense of security? why would so many people use radar detectors/scramblers if they were all bulls_hit? |

I agree with boibleu22 that radar detectors are just a false sense of security. I have one and about a year ago I was driving pretty fast down a road with a friend and then a car started tailing my friend(like 5 feet behind his car) so we pulled into a parking lot to see what was going on and then the car pulled in behind us and turned on his lights and then we realized that it was a cop, and we both got $168 tickets. My pretty nice radar detector didn't even say anything! Since then my radar detector has been sitting in my room collecting dust.

I agree also that it is a false sense of security. It doesn't prevent you from getting a ticket. Cops have other ways of finding your speed, such as driving in back of you and going the same speed as you. Also they may turn it on all of a sudden so that you won't have enought time to react. It's also been rumored that they can calculate your speed by seeing how quickly you go through two points, and give you a ticket based on that. It also won't get you out of ticket if you did a "California" stop, or made an illegal turn. But it does kinda give you more of a heads up, and is a reminder for me to check my driving habits, which i definitely need cuz i used to speed like crazy.
As for where i found my detector.....I don't remember the site anymore sorry, but i'm pretty sure you can find it on ebay. -------------------- |

Yea radar deretor are only a fales sense of security if thats the only thing you depend on. they are many other ways cops can get your speed like forkee said. just use a radar detector as a rminder to slow down ever once in awhile. jo

just buy the phaser radar jammer. it also works as a regular scanner, but IF a cop is not detected and he wips out the radar gun and targets you, the phaser will send the gun a different signal that interups what it is currently doing. there for the gun cannot display your speed and if it dont say your speeding then your not speeding. sounds nice huh a read an article about them. ill find the link for you.

Coomer--when you and your friend got tickets by that cop one time, it wasn't a cop car? I thought that was entrapment, you know, like at night you can't get a ticket unless the cop has his headlights on.

Actually, it was a cop car, but we just didn't know it was at the time when he was tailing my friend. He had his headlights on, but didn't turn on his flashing lights until we both pulled over on our own to see who was tailing my friend. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I did fight it and I won that one because of this
The price of it was 26 dollars... kinda pointless local cops absolutly hate my car.... I had to press charges on on officer in perticular for harrassment... its kinda cool cuz he got docked one months pay and isn't allowed to pull me over unless I am comminting a crime larger than a minor traffic violation, he has to call another officer to do it. It is crazy the **** I would get pulled over for... u think of it I have been ticketed it.... hell I went to jail once over window tint. -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |
