lol i know i have an oil leak on my pan however i also know im burning oil some where in the engine. im pretty sure its the piston rings.

my questions are if it where the piston rings would i notice a drop in power? becaus i havnt.

second is if i do a compression test and every cylinder is ok then where else can oil be getting in from? the turbo? I checked the hot pipe and its fine and the intake side of the turbo looks good perhaps its on the exhaust side of the turbine?

fix the oil pan first since you said that it was a known leak and go from there. do a compression and leakdown test, just to see how well your motor is still doing. then do a visual inpection to make sure your not leaking oil from you valve cover, rear or front main seal, turbo oil lines, etc...

if you engine was buring oil, you would see large mounts of blue smoke from the exhaust as you drive.

yeah i dont really c large amounts of blue smoke its more like smoke white smoke which i know means water however my coolant level has not changed and it smells like oil. and when i rev it i can see the smoke coming out of the exhaust.

blah i think ill jsut wait till i get a 3sgte which hopfully will be soon and its not smoking all the time only when i spool up the turbo.

perhaps my turbo is leaking oil on the exhaust outlet side and the oil is getting heated up (not burned) there?

as for the oil pan i changed it once but the one i got when i started the project was in bad shape (someone didnt disclose that blahh) the lip wasnt flat at all and as even as i tried to make it the pan will start to leak a few 1000 miles later.

are you using a reducer for your oil line?

yup a 3an one. btw if it is the turbo on the exhaust side whats the easiest way to tell, becuase i was thinking it may be hard to tell with all the black exhaust residue.. what what i be looking for.

i thought it was my cylinder/rings as well but im not so sure becuase there isnt a mass amount of blue smoke its mostly just whiteish as if the oil was getting heated not burned

It's probably your turbo.
Remove the dp and see if there is oil in it.
How much oil is in the intake side?
A small bit is normal [from the PCV], but alot = leakage.

i checked the intake side a few days ago and there inst n e thing massive its the exhaust side i think my problem is...

if it were the rings i would have blue smoke because the oil would be burned rather then just heated up and smoking right?

if it where the rings what else would i notice.... my idle is fine motor sounds fine

do a comp test. check the coolant for any signs of oil and oil for signs of coolant. if you see something that looks like coffee with milk then its a head gasket. how much oil and/or coolant do you loose ?

i lose no coolant
about a half a qt every umm 150 miles
coolant looks healthy and so does the oil

comp test soon to come

edit:

i noticed today that some of the smoke is blue?? if the turbo was leaking could i still have blue smoke?

Burning oil isn't necessarily blue.
It can also be white.

A compression test wouldn't hurt.

a compression & leakdown test will give you a pretty good idea of the condition of the motor and head.
