Has anyone ever done this? Remove the back seats that is? And does anyone know how much they might weigh? Probably going to do that this weekend, was going to do it today, but wasn't at my house. Just wondering. Pre-emptive thanks for any info!

I took mine off and they really dont weigh anything at all. Well i took off the bak seat belt and the seats, so thats probably about 10-20lb.

i remember i removed my rear seats, spare tire and scraped off a bunch of the sound deadening from the previous owner.. my scale might not be entirely accurate but with everything it was about 78lbs

the paint looked pretty good under it all

the seats are really light. doing just them, wont really be much of a benefit. but everything adds up, so if you want weight reduction, then gut the whole car.

IMO its not worth the hassle or the 'weight' savings. And you kinda need a spare tire incase u get a flat..

I love the idea of any weight removal possible - i dont mean to thread jack, but did anyone read the sport compact car issue w/ the opera s2000 in it!? where they lightened the car by 900lbs by circle drilling and chamfering the entire body of the car (wherever structural integrity wasnt an issue). Since i read that article - i've been tryin to dream up ways to remove that much weight from my celica.... anyone else have any weight removal techniques for their ride? smile.gif

I have actually heard of circle drilling! My friend was getting it done to his GS-R. But other than that, C/F'ing all the panels!! (that you're able to) and striping the interior...what else can you do?

the rear seats all together probably way like 20lbs max, and there only like 4 bults and 2 stong clips up front, very easy. not worth taking em out unless you wana put something in there place. the spare is also not really worth talking out, not very heaving but yeah combind with taking other crap out it adds up. I dont have mine because I cant use it, car is to low to drive with the spare on, it bottoms out.

i removed my spare tire, all those tools the jack and some stuff, the tire was 17 kg which is like 37 lbs.
i was kinda impressed to see that my spare was on a original 16" alloy rim, were yours too?

Oh hell no! I've never been that lucky. But i've always wanted to get 5 wheels/tires and mount the 5th one in my trunk so i'd have a good spare if needed! Then, if you roll-caged your car, you could mount the wheel on that and make it look cool. I saw it on a Corsa or something once (in the UK). It looked bada$$. Anyways...what's chamfering?
