So my mechanic calls me this morning beaming about this Toyota Paseo that one of his customers is selling for 5k. Has a set and an alarm system already and it's been in his shop every three months for oil changes and whatnot...so he's trying to convince me to buy it.

Me: "But I already bought the Celica. You know, the one you said was great except for the oil leak, which we're gonna fix?"

Mechanic: "Yeah, well, I don't like your Celica as much as this Paseo. This car is a great car, the guy takes care of it better than he takes care of his wife."

Me: "Hmm...well, I'll look at it, but I really don't have the money, so..."

Mechanic: "If you don't have the money I'll lend it to you and you can pay me back when you sell the Celica."

(SELL THE CELICA?!?!?!)

So...yeah...I think deep down inside that I am totally not going to go for this...but, I dunno...just the fact that my mechanic (also my boyfriends father) is willing to lend me 5k to get this car and ditch the Celi is really, really bothering me...

what do you guys think?

ill be the oddball.. Id take a paseo over a celica.. fo rlz

hmm comparison time..

Celica 2400-2600LB..
Paseo 1900-2300LB..
7AFE- 105/115
5EFE- 100/???
Insurance... Paseo > Celica
Gas Mileage Paseo > Celica
Paseo shares plenty of Tercel parts.
Celica shares.. engine parts with previous Celica.

just a .02

Hmmm...yeah, my sentiments exactly with most of you guys, lol...I know that there's no way I could sell the Celi now that I've fallen completely in love with it. I think my mechanics issue is just that the Celi is "old" (a 94) and that he hasn't been the one doing the maintenence, so he's worried about the condition its in. (He did tell me Monday when I broke down that I really, really needed a tune-up, my filter looked diiiiiisgusting!)

I guess I could peek at the Paseo just to appease him, but from the pictures I've seen online, I'm probably not going to be impressed...

hehe...psshhhtt....so expressive presure2 smile.gif

lol

ok, I just got to the bottom of it, via a slip of the tongue from my own boyfriend! redface.gif

He said the guy is leaving, moving off-island, and really needs the money...

Man, I already got a good car, he can totally find someone else to buy it for that price if it's so friggin' fully loaded! tongue.gif

Ugh, I have a gnarly cold sore and I just bit it by accident! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!

what a day...

your mechanic probably thinks your the kind of girl who doesn't care much about cars. he is probably seeing it from a mechanical veiw. He sees the paseo as in mint condition and your celica nearing its last limbs ( an extreme point of view not saying your car is in bad conditoin).

He probably think your a college student that just wants a reliable car to get to class, cheap mantain, and fuel efficent. Face it, our celica's look sporty and other people think they eat gas. So from that point of view get the paseo.

hehe, well, I am a college student that wants a reliable car to get to class, is cheap to maintain, and is fuel efficient...

but hey, the Celi hasn't failed me yet tongue.gif

and I know the parts are a lil pricey, but I think I can fork over the extra cash to keep riding around in this sexy ride wink.gif

and on a 13-mile island, eh, i spend maybe 40 a week in gas, max

lol...i dunno...my bf is determined to get me to look at the Paseo and I just don't want to anymore...oh well biggrin.gif

how much do you spend in US dollars on a 13 mile island per week? if that's 40 USDs, then you must drive back and forth a few times a day. haha.

Paseo is basically a Tercel 2-Door... It drives wack, handles wack, looks wack, and when anyone passes you, they'll have this weird look on their face staring at your Paseo like "can't you get a better car than this? Must be a bum..."

yeah, I didn't even look at it tonight, I just don't want to bother tongue.gif (big surprise)

Yeah, 40 U.S. Dollars, gas here is about $3.89 a gallon, I think...40 just about fills my tank, anyway...

I totally agree that i'd much rather have a celica than a paseo, but it's not like paseos are junk... Paseo > similar year cavalier, escort, or neon anyday wink.gif

You can drop a 3s into the Paseo.

It's just not as sexy looking.
