Hi guys, little help here for a auto paint newbie . . . I have a small chip caused by a too-long battery post from the previous owner. As you can see it's starting to rust a bit:
It's about dime-sized, maybe quarter-sized at the most if you include all that might flake once sanding gets started. Here's a shot for scale: (and yes she desperately needs a wash; working at a dusty jobsite sucks) So, a bodyshop wants to paint the whole hood. For 300 bucks. Now I don't think it's insane to repaint such a small spot. I'd like to have it look nice, but it doesn't need to be perfect. Now my dad says it won't look good at all, since the 10-year-old paint will have faded. How much can you notice the blend? Also, what places have people had good experiences with online paint shops? And what's the best to get? a bottle for a chip this big? Any links to paint touch-up how-to's that you've found helpful? Thanks in advance. sand it primer it and spray it.....take it to any paint supplier and they can match the paint even if it's faded. Tell them you want an acrylic urothane (sp). after sprayed wet sand and buff the full hood.
